The Official Braves Thread Of Volnation

As much as I hate to say this, gold gloves look only at errors

Gold Gloves look at reputation more than anything else. Sometimes the stats and the awards don't quite match up.

Trades can still be made until September 1, the players involved just have to clear waivers first, so it's a little bit more difficult to get a deal done since teams lower in the standings can make a waiver claim and foul things up.

Yeah, I just don't see the Braves trading for anyone that would clear waivers and help them this season.

The only thing I could imagine happening would be picking up more middle relief help, but I think you're probably right.

Even if they did try to make some sort od deal through waivers, there are so many teams still somewhat in contention, at least in their own minds, that it'd be even more difficult than usual for a helpful player to clear the waivers.

True . . . Except sadly at this point the Braves are probably the last team that could consider themselves to be in contention.

Going into Friday this is who the Braves have left......

@ Pitt-2 vs. Pitt-3
@ Cin-3
vs. Phil-6 @Phil-4
vs. Mil-3
@Wash-7 vs. Wash-3
@Flor-3 vs. Flor-3
vs. SF-3
@NYM-3 vs.NYM-3
vs. CHC-4
@Col-4
vs.Hou-3

57 Games.

Braves lost to Pit today. Wild card is 5.0 games heading into tonights action. The really bad part is that we are in ninth place in the wild card standings.

Yep . . . It changes on a daily basis, but the games back are pretty meaningless until you get to at least 3rd or 4th place. They need to make a serious run in the next 3 weeks to get somewhere in the upper 2 or 3 teams heading into September.

So Andruw Jones was claimed on waivers... but by who?

I'll throw a team out there... Houston, maybe? They'd probably trade Oswalt for A. Jones since they were rumored to be dealing him to Baltimore for Tejeda around the trade deadline. Probably nothing to it, but, just throwing it out there. Any of you Braves' fans heard anything?

I'm curious about what Braves fans think about the prospect of Jones being traded. I think I heard on ESPN today that in 11 days he will become a 10/5 guy (giving him veto power over all trades). Perhaps the Braves think it would be easier to trade him now. :question:

Would someone please tell Rathbun that David Ross was traded to the Reds from the Dodgers? Both times the Braves have played the Reds, he's butchered the story on Ross. Tonight he claimed that Ross came to the Reds from San Diego after spring training. The Marlins also have a guy named Ross and whenever the Braves were playing them one time Rathburn claimed that he was traded from the Reds to the Marlins. Oye.

Rathbun has always been weak, but as long as they insist on force feeding Ron Gant as a color analyst, Rathbun sounds like Vin Scully by comparison.

About the Jones' Situation:

Beginning Tuesday, all teams were permitted to place as many as seven players per day on the waiver wire. Thus by Friday, many teams will have already put members of their 25-man roster on waivers.

Multiple teams can claim a player who has been placed on waivers. If two teams were to claim a specific player, the lower-ranking team according to winning percentage (whether it be an American or National League team), is given rights to that player for 48 hours.

If the Astros and Red Sox were to both put a claim on Andruw Jones, the Astros would have that 48-hour period to discuss a trade with the Braves. If nothing materialized, Jones would remain with the Braves.

All players remain on the waiver wire for two full business days. If they are never claimed, they can be traded at any point, to any team for the remainder of the season. But to be eligible for the postseason, a player must be traded by Aug. 31.

If a player is claimed by a team and a deal never materializes, a team will not likely place them back on waivers. When they initially place a player on waivers, a team has the right to pull them back at any time.

But when a player is placed on waivers a second time, the claim is irrevocable. Thus any claiming team owns the rights and a trade must be completed.

I actually prefer Gant over Torborg, so since only half of the dynamic duo was in attendance tonight, I managed to watch the entire game.

Don't rip on Torborg. His son is arguably the worst professional wrestler of all time.

Fear the Demon!!!!

I don't think it's all that big a deal. Joe Dimaggio was once put on waivers. It happens more than we'll ever know.

That was the issue, nobody feared him. With the possible exception of when Vince put El Gigante in that Slim Goodbody outfit, the worst non-clown related gimmick of all time.

You are obviously forgetting the infamous Shockmaster. :crazy:

When he was in Cincinnati, Jim Bowden would routinely place the entire roster on waivers around the trading deadline.

Dusty Rhodes dressed up as a bad rip off of a Spider Man villan. The "debut" of the Shockmaster on TBS is some of the funniest television ever.
