Georgia Southern is finalizing a deal with Clay Helton to be its next football coach, multiple sources told FootballScoop. Pete Thamel first reported Helton's impending hire at Georgia Southern, which in September fired Chad Lunsford after the Eagles' slow start.

One thing Brohm has going for him is recruiting and his track record against the top programs. Has 3 double digit wins against Top 5 teams since he's been to Purdue and if you can recruit guys like Rondale Moore & David Bell to Purdue them imagine what you could do at UF. I do think UF wants to see more overall wins and results before a hire like Brohm but his name is becoming hot again.

Everyone remember how people were making fun of Tennessee’s list of candidates? But now look who’s after them! The national media disdain for Tennessee is so obvious, but that’s also a admission of relevance! Do you consider any of those coaches “home run hires? Now? Last year? 3 years ago? If those are the best LSU, USC, etc can do, then we must feel pretty positive where we are right now all things considered! All the losers (Dave Hooker) that assume Heupel will automatically go to OU someday fail to see or understand that possibly he may NOT want to go back there!

Keep an eye on Mel Tucker and Mario Cristobal as coaching carousel heats up

Seems like a weird hire for Georgia Southern. Haven't they been a triple-option school for nearly forever?
