The Official Duke/UNC 2017/18 Basketball Thread!!!

Clemson is the popular guess right now. But I live in South Carolina now so most of these outlets are probably biased. His stepdad played there, so there is a relationship.

There is virtually no in-state loyalty in basketball recruiting like there is in football. It's why schools like Georgia and Alabama are hardly ever any good. Their fans can't pressure their kids into staying at home.

Basketball and football are definitely different when it comes to recruiting. Unfortunately, it has come down to who can get me to the association the quickest.

Hokes played their ass off. UNC has a lot of work to do. Not being biased, Carolina is not good right now, they just aren’t. They are playing lazy, and their transition defense was terrible tonight. Roy will fix it, because he’s too good of a coach not to. UNC will come out like gangbusters against their next opponent.

I say that, but I’m starting to see Carolina’s ceiling shrinking at the same time.

Your assessment is completely fair, and I can't disagree at all. Along with the points you made, they are so careless with the ball. The GT game was brutal...one of those wins that felt like a loss.

The big guys are coming along slowly, but I don't think they will be consistent weapons until next year.

It's college basketball, so any team can win on any night, but this team currently doesn't show any signs of making a meaningful run in March.

They will improve, the problem is if Maye gets matched up against a more athletic guy and gets shutdown then everything falls on Berry. As good as he is, he can’t do it by himself.

I have a hot take re: Joel Berry.

I think he's too cut. He beefed up a bunch during the offseason and I think that has really hurt his touch on his shot. Or maybe he's just pressing too much.

Coming into the season, I felt like their ceiling was probably Sweet 16, and I still feel that way. Depending on matchups, I could see them make the Elite 8 because they've shown flashes of being a really good team, but at the end of the day, they have too many flaws and inconsistencies to win it all.

How good would Theo Pinson be if he was even just an average shooter? He will play in the league, I think, and have a solid career as a wing defender and extra ball handler. If he can ever fix his shot...

too much to ask for after that horrific first half. This team just can't put complete games together. Even the blowouts against Pitt Duke had 5-8 minute lapses where they didn't accomplish anything. At some point, they have to gel. Not sure that will ever happen.

Allen is not playing well and Virginia is very good. The only way Duke is successful is if Allen produces from the peremiter. He didn’t today and Duke lost, but Duke is the best team in the ACC.

Really should have gone pro after his sophomore year. It's not just his numbers that have plummeted, he just hasn't developed at all to me.

He’s the epitome of the team. Has stretched where even though he’s not shooting well, he makes all the plays the team needs. Then he has moments like that three he literally threw up with 15 seconds to play

Yeah, don't get me wrong, he's still a very good player. Capable of being one of, if not the best player in the nation.

I will disagree and say that he’s become a great shooter, with the exception of today. He’s developed, he just has 2 top picks who he plays with and the offense has changed. That said, he has to get 15-18 a night for Duke to be the team they can be.

He was always a great shooter. And yes, the offense and the players have changed, but just don't see him growing in other areas over the last two years. I actually thought it was smart at the time, but probably not.

He's been struggling shooting the ball for about 6 straight games now.
