The Official ETSU @ Tennessee Game Thread (Tues. 3/18 5PM EDT) (SECNET+)

TV was fuming in the presser. Probably not a good time to ask for an autograph.
Probably still hot over those missed calls late in the game and a home plate umpire that is calling strikes at the top of your sternum but refuses to call anything close to the knees. Tony and myself don’t have time for incompetent umpiring.

Disagree, he isn’t unrealistic. He thrives on these moments.

Unrealistic and aggravated are two different things. And one can “thrive” and be aggravated at the same time.

10 hits to 7

14 runners left on base

Watching Tony V over the years I’m sure he wasn’t pleasant following the loss. He is sometimes aggravated after a midweek win if the Vols don’t perform up to their standards.

And I’m not making this loss a big deal - just saying that I’d bet Tony V wasn’t happy with his team tonight

I’ve been reflecting a bit on the lineup order, and I wasn’t crazy about it to start the year and I think I’m even less crazy about it now….I’m talking about Curley at leadoff. I know he sees a lot of pitches, but to me he doesn’t really fit the mold of the traditional leadoff hitter you’d like to see. Curley also hasn’t exactly had the torrid start to the year I thought he would after his big off-season.

I do wonder if Tony is considering shuffling the lineup at all. I think I wouldn’t mind seeing Abernathy leadoff. Get some speed at the top of the order. Maybe shift Curley to after Fischer. It might take some pressure off Dean to produce with no runners on base and get him back closer to the spot in the order that he thrives in last year.

I can see your points, all valid I guess. I think we’ve kinda been in shuffle mode thus far, kinda about where we’re supposed to be this time of year. Sort of feels like there’s starting to be a strategy evolving, I’m cool with letting it play out I guess.

Honestly im not even upset. Before the Florida series i remember thinking that getting the first loss out of the way may be a relief and a positive for the team. Get rid of the pressure of winning every single game. I just didnt want it to be to florida lol

So maybe this is a best case scenario, not a bad loss.

I don't see CTV moving Curley from lead off spot. CTV probably wants the big hitters to get as many at bats as they can get. If you drop Curley down to 5th spot behind Fischer than probably means one less at bat for a power hitter. Maybe just flip flop Kilen and Curley in lineup. Kilen provides more speed from lead off spot and Curley doesn't lose any at bats. Abernathy in the 9 hole seems logical for now ......I'm not desiring for any lineup changes just saying why I don't believe CTV moves Curley out of lead off spot...

Both Marin and Abernathy will be closer to the top before post season.

I don't know if their pitching will play through a full weekend series, but for any given game, that is a really good mid-conference team. Run well, field well, put the ball in play.

Might take a motorcycle ride to Lexington VA to watch them play VMI in May. Seems like that might be a fun series.
Lexington, VA is a great little town with both VMI and Washington & Lee located there.
Then you can ride north on I-81 and cut over on I-64 to see the Blue Ridge mountains and maybe visit Charlottesville.

I agree we need to find someone to lead off for us and I think we need to find consistency in the DH spot. Clark, as you would expect from a freshman, is starting to struggle and Bargo has struggled all season so not sure who is going to fill that role as we get deeper into SEC play.
