I stopped by because I was feeling the same way. Seems like I should be listening to the game (on 45-seconds delay) or following a live game thread with its always witty and insightful comments. Is it me or is this the longest off time ever? Just give me the first pitch already! (Yes, I’m selfish)
Evansville is playing with house money, is very experienced with a roster loaded with seniors and grads, and will play loose with nothing to lose. Their 2 southpaw starters are very talented, and their offense is a doubles machine with HR power. This series is no layup. They also benefit from being the Cinderella story underdog of the whole tournamentIn doing my research of the Purple Aces, I came across the following stat lines for Mark Shallenberger, and they are wildly impressive:
BA .390
OPS 1.247
HR 17
RBI 63
Slg .719
OBP .528
BB 45
SO 21
HBP 26
His SO% is 6.9%, but his HBP is maybe even more insane. Double the number of walks vs. strike outs, all while being a big power guy.
I don’t consider any team a gimme this far along in the tournament, but they haven’t faced a pitching group or an offense like ours.Evansville is playing with house money, is very experienced with a roster loaded with seniors and grads, and will play loose with nothing to lose. It’s all about how we respond to the pressure in postseason especially of being a heavily favored team against a relative unknown. Evansville is extremely well coached and will be very aggressive with hit and runs. Their catcher is a weakness that I think we will exploit on the bases. Don’t get me wrong, the BaseVols are loaded but baseball can be such a cruel game. Yeah we definitely learned that it’s cruel in ‘22, hopefully there’s no replay. It’s all about how we respond to the pressure in postseason especially of being a heavily favored team against a relative unknown. I think this team really cares for one another, for Tony, and for our fanbase. We’re the favorites to break the #1 seed curse and win the National Championship! I think they come in loose but execute.Yes, I’m agreeing with you but at the same time, hoping our guys are focused on finishing their last ride in college and not looking ahead to getting paid...which would be very easy to do at that age.
We got this!
We got a lot of quality baseball to watch this weekend, and hopefully by about 3 PM on Saturday we can join @OrngeJuiceJones wirh the celebratory refreshments!Nope I’m freaking pumped! Food is prepped. I’m gonna make myself do it but it’s definitely the 8 year old me “Twas The Night Before Christmas!”
