The Official Jones Coaching Staff Thread (Updated)

"I am very excited about the staff we have been able to attract here to the University of Tennessee. I said at my press conference that it would start with effective communicators, great teachers and individuals that could be become role models to our players. This staff features individuals are that fundamentalists in their techniques of the game and great recruiters who have a passion to be at Tennessee. We have been able to assemble a championship staff. When you look at the experience of these coaches over their careers, there is a great amount of continuity and familiarity.

"Our staff is comprised of teachers and mentors from all levels of football that have been successful and know what it takes to win championships. I have done my due diligence to compose what I feel is one of the best coaching staffs in the country, and I know everyone associated with Tennessee football will be proud of this staff. I know each of them is looking forward to representing the orange and being a part of Tennessee football." - Butch Jones

1) Auburn was not his fault. 2) The porn stache more than makes up for Atlanta. 3) When he was at Georgia, his D's were fast and got to the ball in a bad mood. That shows me, much like Chavis, with elite players his D's are fast, physical, disruptive and tough to score on. 4) VanGorder>Jancek.

Yeah, WHEN he was at Georgia. Tommy Tubberville went 14-0 in 2004 why didn't we hire him as HC? Philip Fulmer won a national
Title in 1998. Why don't we rehire him? VanGorder has passed his prime and is washed up just like the rest the people above. There's a reason many do not want these guys. There prime was well passed them. Sure Jancek wasn't a home run hire, but at least he improved a a Cincy defense on every aspect and forced a lot of turnovers.

VanGorder is the highest paid Defensive Coordinator in the SEC for a reason. And VanGorder didnt get fired from Ga. unlike Jancek.

Look into why before you try to make your next point. Jancek is not a 3-4 guy, and Ga hired Gantham.

I think you need to take your own advice. The year Martinez and Jancek were co-defensive coordinators the whole Georga team underachieved. Fans had been dissatisfied with a defense that had been in a slide since VanGorder left to become the head coach at Ga Southern. Fans were gettin pissed because they thought Richt was being too loyal to these assistants. Richt was on the hot seat. In order to stop wide spread mattress burning across the state of Georgia, he fired them both. Then...hired Grantham, to install a similar defense to Alabama. That cooled Richt's seat for a while, and the rest is history.

I just remember Willie Martinez calling plays. Martinez was a terrible playcaller, and that perceived Jancek as a bad coach also. It's the same snowball effect with Sal Sunseri, his playcalling made all of the defensive assistant coaches look bad.

Kind of like when you tell your nagging wife and whiny kids you are going out for a pack of smokes....then go to Mexico.

You can have all the Allstar position coaches on the planet and if there is NO chemistry then you don't have a damn thing. CBJ has been successful with his staff and I'm good with that.

You know people are trying way too hard to defend Jones when they're saying the Cincinnati coaching staff is good enough because it "has chemistry."

I completely agree. He knew he wasn't leaving USC before he came here. Also, I wasn't impressed with Barkley or his receivers this year. They were suppossed to be the very best in the nation. From where I am sitting they were no better than Bray and our receivers. They lost four games with all if that takent and another year like this one means their whole coaching staff will be unemployed We can only hope!

Barkley wasn't very good, but their receivers are excellent. I'm not saying it's all due to Martin, but don't pretend like SC doesn't have great receivers.

Tee inherited a great situation over there... Woods and Lee in his first year, whether he made them what they are or not, he's going to benefit on the recruiting trail. If he came here... yeah, I don't blame him.

Maybe it's just me but this staff looks like it is full of a bunch of yanks with no SEC experience. Really not happy that a proven coach like Pittman was let go to hire someone with no SEC experience.

Pittman was a great coach but he didn't have SEC experience before last year.

No SEC experience? Wrong!!!! Half of this staff has ties to the SEC.

No! I don't know that. I give him a great deal of props for getting a staff in here asap and putting them to work recruiting. You (essentially) only get one shot at these kids. They have already gone through the team building while at cincy and so they really get an extra year to perform instead. This is one opportunity to actually validate the three years rebuilding model that was very not fair for Dooley to have to go through. When I say that I'm not saying we should have kept him... I'm saying we needed a more seasoned coach in the first place, that is if we expected the rebuilding to only take three years.
