The Official Jones Coaching Staff Thread (Updated)

Watch football much? If we get Azzanni we have one of the best recruiting staff's in the country...period. My only concern is the DC position. Jancek can get the job done, but for recruiting, I think we need a bigger name. Hope they bring in VanGorder. When VanGorder was with Martinez and Jancek at Ga. that D was nasty. We'll see how it all works out. So far so good...

Can you elaborate a little more or give some examples of current staff's recruiting chops? Maybe a little more info on Azzanni? Thanks!

Lane Kiffin tried really hard to hire him when he was at Tennessee. The guy is top notch as a recruiter and teacher. If they thought they could get Azzanni from the start, it would explain why BJ and Hart did not put on the full court press to get Tee. I tell you what guys, this staff WILL recruit like beast. Azzanni, Martinez, Graham and Thigpen are all ace recruiters...wow.

Sounds encouraging - how do you know about the recruiting skills of Martinez, Thigpen, and Azzanni JDog?

Martinez and Thigpen have been named to Rivals top 25 recruiters several times. Im waivering on Azzanni. I was thinking Kiffin tried to hire Azzanni away from Florida as WR coach when he was at Tennessee, but it was Billy Gonzales. Gonzales took the LSU job instead, thats when Urban Meyer hired Azzanni. CUM says he is a relentless recruiter, but I think we need a bigger name, if we want to continue to get the caliber athlete we are used to at Wide Receiver U.

Should have kept the S&C coach, IMO.

Dunno...recall opening game this season where Neyland Jumbotron showed all those "before & after" shots of Vol players flexing muscles/abs. Was that photo-shopped or did all that weight-lifting translated into SLOWER football players?

VanGorder was never "with Jancek at Ga."

John Jancek arrived at Georgia in 2005, Van Gorder's last year was the 2004 season.

i disagree. if CBJ is comfortable with his S&C coach, then bringing him along makes plenty of sense. i would imagine that it takes quite a bit of work and time to get on the same page, as far as training regimens, and off season work outs.

...plus the S&C coach is the conduit to the HC during the off-season, so it has to be someone who preaches and drives the coaches philosophy and directives. Lot of trust required in that role.

exactly. i watched the player warm ups at Cincy game, and the players were pretty jacked. of course, that can be said for every college football team, but you get my point.

The S & C coach is THE coach in the offseason.

He has to be good at S & C but he also has to be very smart and able to pass along and teach the things that EVERY position coach wants taught to his players during the offseason.

He's much more important than most people will ever understand.

VFL...GBO!!!

Why let S&C coach go? Who is our S&C coach now?

That is a common move when a coaching change is made. If a coach likes the results of a strength coach, they normally try to take that guy with them to the next stop. As a person with a background in that field, I can tell you that whoever he brings in will have a successful strength program. The resources at UT are second to none and an untrained monkey could produce good result in that environment.

Well, now im pissed! VanGorder is available and we get Jancek. Im trying to get pumped about this staff but its gettin hard. Martinez and Thigpen really good hires. I like Stripling too. Jancek is a fine LB's coach. Sorry, but if you have the money for a Porshe, you dont come home with a civic. :)

VanGorder had a mediocre year at Auburn and was a failure at Atlanta. As a Falcons fan I believe the reason were 11-2 this year is because Mike Nolan >>>>> VanGorder. My entire family could not stand VanGorder and his consistently weak defenses and porn stache

1) Auburn was not his fault. 2) The porn stache more than makes up for Atlanta. 3) When he was at Georgia, his D's were fast and got to the ball in a bad mood. That shows me, much like Chavis, with elite players his D's are fast, physical, disruptive and tough to score on. 4) VanGorder>Jancek.
