The Official Jones Coaching Staff Thread (Updated)

decker I think they lost FIVE games (just two more than us!!!)

Word is that Kiffen called Tee just before our interview with him and offered him a six figure raise; Kiff played us, and Tee in my opinion. We were not going to offer Tee money in the 1/2 million range, which is what it would have taken to get him.

I hate USC and hope they go 0-12, mainly because of Lame Kiffin. That being said, they have 6 5-star (2 RB and a QB included) and 10 4-star commitments... You'd have to be worse than deer-in-headlights Dooley to mess that up..

I just heard something about Willie Martinez to the Vols - please tell me this isn't true

What are you talkin' about? Martinez is a hell of a Db's coach, and one of the best recruiters in the country. He recruits Florida and the Atlanta area, both are vital to a program like Tennessee. Name a Db coach that can do those things better than Martinez...

apparently former WR coach from Wisconsin azzanni has an offer to be the WR coach per 247's sources...He was with Jones at CMU from 07-09, with Urban Meyer at UF in 2010 and has been at Wisconsin the last 2 years...known as a relentless recruiter...

Lane Kiffin tried really hard to hire him when he was at Tennessee. The guy is top notch as a recruiter and teacher. If they thought they could get Azzanni from the start, it would explain why BJ and Hart did not put on the full court press to get Tee. I tell you what guys, this staff WILL recruit like beast. Azzanni, Martinez, Graham and Thigpen are all ace recruiters...wow.

In the past 10 years, Azzanni has been called a “relentless” recruiter by Urban Meyer. He has most notably been a staple in the recruiting areas of the state of Florida, in particular the Miami/Fort Lauderdale areas.

Has a good reputation as a coach too. Would be a very good hire imo

Hmmm I talked to a buddy of mine today, current student at UT, and he gave me this rumor. Supposedly, CBJ asked the reciever core what WR coach they would like to have. I wonder if its a play to try and get JH and CP to stay? I'm gonna give him a call back and find out if Azzanni was mentioned.

I know this sounds extremely troll-ish and I don't want to be that guy but are we now to believe that the "best football staff in the country" includes the defensive coordinator from Cincinnati but not Tee Martin?

I'm still a long way from believing; still hoping Jones can convince me though. :)

Agreed. I like CBJs early aggressiveness in recruiting trips. But, the staff hires thus far are not giving me a lot of confidence. We need some 'top notch' coaches with excellent recruiting abilities. So far, I'm reserved but hopeful.

Watch football much? If we get Azzanni we have one of the best recruiting staff's in the country...period. My only concern is the DC position. Jancek can get the job done, but for recruiting, I think we need a bigger name. Hope they bring in VanGorder. When VanGorder was with Martinez and Jancek at Ga. that D was nasty. We'll see how it all works out. So far so good...

So Coach Jones is asking players for their take on which receivers coach to hire.....Ho Hum....doesn't sound right

As assistant coaches go, Tee would have been a splash hire, one that would have paid significant dividends on the recruiting trail. I believe that Coach Jones deserves significant kudos for extending the offer to Tee. If I recall correctly, Tee said that he had received the offer a couple of days before he arrived in Knoxville, which would suggest that Jones made the offer on Friday or early Saturday at the latest. In other words, it was one of Jones' first offical acts as head coach.

Whether it was a "token" offer, as some have suggested, and regardless of Tee's ultimate reasons for declining it, it was a positive diplomatic step on Jones' part to make the offer. Giving a beloved hero the opportunity to come home to his alma mater, where he led the Vols to a National Championship, was, quite simply, the right thing for Jones to do. And I believe that his gesture should be intepreted partially as a strategic move that, if successful, would have helped to restore some semblance of harmony and unity to the fractured Vol fanbase.

Sources say Jon Gruden is VERY interested in one of those last few slots.

Ok It is time to clarify the online definition of the word "sources". In most instances here, if you wish to avoid confusion, imagine every time you see the word "sources" replace it with "my imagination" The world will in the future make infinitely more sense.

Perhaps I'll need to research more. With Jones as HC and the two from Cinci as OC and DC, I'm not sure how this adds up to one of the best recruiting staffs in the nation. Was the best recruiting staff hiding in Cincinnati? Seriously, just looking for more info. Off to read more now...hope your right.

You can have all the Allstar position coaches on the planet and if there is NO chemistry then you don't have a damn thing. CBJ has been successful with his staff and I'm good with that.

Ok I got a little info on the Azzanni deal I believe to be true. My understanding is that Zach contacted CBJ to let him know that he would be interested in the taking the WR coaching spot on his staff. CBJ supposedly had a couple other calls in for two other coaches. And that there was no offer on the job officially
