Anyone actually expecting the "best" staff is setting themselves up for disappointment. I think it will be a solid staff. Hopefully we'll see that in the players come next season. It's all about improvement. If they're good coaches, the players will get better.

Name Postions

Jay Graham Running backs
No explanation needed

Don Mahoney O Line
6 years with Jones

Mike Bajakian OC/QB
6 years with Jones

John Jancek DC
Was rumored to be willing to take a position spot @ UT
3 years with Jones DC this year, 2 years co-DC prior
Linebackers coach 4 years and 1 year co-DC @ UGA
Also coached with Kelly @ CM

Steve Stripling DLine
6 years with Jones

Willie Martinez DBacks
Former GA DC (run out of town 2009) strong DB coach prior. Year at OK then year at Auburn since - solid recruiter

Tommy Thigpen Unknown
1 year at Auburn - S
4 years @ UNC - LB
Coached 2 years under Urban @ bowling green - DB & ST
1st position job at TN ST

I added a little background info. The fact that there is over 20 years combined experience working with Jones speaks to continuity and ability to keep a team together. Add to that Martinez and Jancek have worked together several more. You essentially have a staff that can hit the ground running and already knows how to work together.

Seems that Mark Elder would be the ST/TE coach and Tee would coach WR if he accepts the offer. Butch has a fallback plan of TJ Weist if Tee is to decline. And that would fill out the staff. Weist was CBJ's recruiting coordinater at Cincy, so I think it says a lot about Butch reaching out to a homer to potentially replace someone he values highly enough to be recruiting coordinator. I feel that Tee would take on that role as well if he is to come back to UT

Martinez was fired by both Georgia and Oklahoma.

John Jancek was fired by Georgia.

This staff pretty average, far from the "best staff in America" by a wide margin.

Depends. If they were assistants, and the HC was fired, it's common for all assistants to be fired as well, w/o them being bad coaches. Now, if they were fired as HC's then you have a valid point.

Anybody else thought about Auburns woes on the defensive side of the ball like poor tackling angles and tackling being due to Thigpen's coaching? I'm a bit worried. We need a solid defense and can't risk weakness anywhere. I am behind Coach Jones 100% but this hire was questionable to me
