The Official Libertarian/Anarcho-Capitalist Thread

I’m a minarchist libertarian.

I barely know how to run my own life and in turn have no desire to tell others how to run theirs.

I hope to be given the same courtesy by other citizens and a small state that basically plays the role of ref.

Equality of opportunity, equality in rights, a free an open society.

Oh, this would have been shutdown in the US a long time ago due to liability. This is one instance where Canada may be ahead of the US in terms of freedom.

That explains your messed up views perfectly

Nah, technically he's right. The US was founded on the framework of western Enlightenment liberalism. Somewhere along the way, we conflated the terms progressive and liberal and it's turned into a semantics nightmare. American conservatives are actually quite well versed in western Enlightenment liberalism, they just avoid calling it that now.

"Liberalism became a distinct movement in the Age of Enlightenment, when it became popular among Western philosophers and economists. Liberalism sought to replace the norms of hereditary privilege, state religion, absolute monarchy, the divine right of kings and traditional conservatism with representative democracy and the rule of law. Liberals also ended mercantilist policies, royal monopolies and other barriers to trade, instead promoting free trade and marketization. Philosopher John Locke is often credited with founding liberalism as a distinct tradition, based on the social contract, arguing that each man has a natural right to life, liberty and property and governments must not violate these rights. While the British liberal tradition has emphasized expanding democracy, French liberalism has emphasized rejecting authoritarianism and is linked to nation-building."

Here is the deal with immigration and ICE. You can't have the libertarian ideal of open borders if you have a welfare state. Before you move to an open borders policy, you have to deal with the welfare/collectivist problem first.
There has been a welfare state in this country as long as I can remember and that's over 60 years. The democrats will never end the welfare state until our country can no longer function because it's bankrupt.

Nah. You are forever restricting the basic freedom of movement because of a welfare state that will never go away. I get why somebody would agree with you but an anarchist should not.

Why should the people that lived here and paid their dues/taxes have to support strangers that just crossed the border?

It is a redistribution of wealth scheme between the native people and the immigrants. Remove the welfare state and then open the borders. Otherwise, you will have that unfair wealth redistribution.

It's already unfair.

What we pay in taxes and what they spend on the welfare state are not related. We spend way beyond our means. We're going bankrupt one way or another. I refuse to deny people freedom because it might bankrupt us a little sooner.

And Jesus definitely wouldn't have said "deny less fortunate strangers because some of them may not glean the fields."
