While we’re talking Jesus and taxes, does anyone remember how Jesus responded to the tax collectors and currency exchange guys at the Temple?
In case you’ve forgotten or recently misrepresented Messiah, it envolved turning over tables, starting a riot, and whipping people with a cane (or a whip depending on translation)

Gleaning the fields takes work and effort. That is totally different than the welfare system we have right now.

But the scripture wasn't talking about a welfare system in any way shape or form. He didn't make work a requirement. He was saying welcome them and let them work....which is what I'm saying. You're saying you don't need to heed his counsel and welcome them because some of them may not work, which is not a condition that he made. There is no condition. The meme is 100% accurately mocking you.

What it did require is you love them as yourself, which is the opposite of what you're doing. Again, you're denying masses because some of them may mooch off a government that is going bankrupt anyway.

Then the simple solution is to deny them welfare benefits because they’re not contributing to the system.

Welfare is a system that enslaves people. It is designed to make them dependent on the government.
Instead of denying people who just got here we need to throw the system out completely.

Jesus didn’t say or do any of those things. He didn’t give 2 ***** about the political system, much less give instructions on how governments and their systems should operate. In fact he said quite the opposite when asked about it. Jesus said his thoughts and concerns were not of this world.

Notice how I edited before you replied to not say "Jesus" so we could avoid these needless distractions from the fkn point.

Leviticus 19
10 And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God.

I got it. It's not a condition for the commandment I am referencing.

When the Israelites were strangers in Egypt, they just didn't sit around in Goshen waiting for their welfare checks... nor did they glean the fields of Egyptians.

Also, if the number of strangers and poor increased, there wasn't a caveat that said, "as the needs of the people increases, we're going to need for you to leave more for them to glean. Instead of the corners, leave 20% for them to glean". or leave half... or give them the entire farm. There was a cap on how much was available. The poor and the stranger have to do like the Israelites and eventually make their own way or starve.

But again, I'm an atheist, so I could be totally misunderstanding or misinterpreting scripture.
No Bubba, you have a better understanding than most Christians I know.

edit: point of clarification. By “Bubba” I mean the Semitic definition “casual friend “ and not the American definition of “southern white trash”

It's still not a condition. The commandment is for the host, not the stranger. There are no conditions.

Bringing Jesus into this discussion was fkn moronic.
Edit: arguing from “scripture” instead doesn’t change the fkn moronic nature of the argument

How are you losing at this? Pretty ugly language for anybody, let alone a disciple of Jesus.

You are right that Jesus said "render unto Caesar..." but that doesn't mean you can justify the support of bad behavior via Caesar's institutions. The default is no law against freedom.of movement for God's children. How do you reconcile the ideas that the commandment is to personally welcome them while personally supporting government policy that denies them this basic freedom and opportunity to better their lives, on a large scale. "Render unto Caesar..." doesn't absolve anybody from being unChristlike via the government.

You're wrong about the letter of the law and completely wrong about the spirit of the law.

Render unto Caesar? Do you even know what you are talking about?

You used a meme that distorts scripture.

I love when people add conditions to language that doesn’t exist in scripture. If you think “fkn” is a problem then that’s on you. As for me I’ll ****ing say anything ****ing thing I want and still leave the law unbroken. Like Paul I understand that I am “****”. Paul doesn’t call himself dung or poop as the translations **** it up. He called himself “****”. And why would that be a problem? Today @Rasputin_Vol is bringing good **** to the conversation. You might even refer to it as holy **** as his **** is on fire.
So here’s a word you, and most Christians deem as offensive but I’m using it to uplift my friend Ras. now your confusion seems to be in understanding who commandments are too and how they are applied. First let’s start with stranger as used in Torah. It doesn’t mean just any mother ****er walking around. When Torah says you were strangers it means you were citizens living among the native born. When it says that you treat strangers “who sojourn with” it doesn’t mean just anyone. It means those not genetically born of Israel who have rejected their ways and joined Israel. The rules are very different for those who don’t sojourn with. Those non native born who didn’t sojourn with were rejected and expelled. So by that reasoning we should reject and expel those who don’t reject their former culture and adapt to the American ideals. Furthermore we are called to focus on ourselves and let our righteous flow from that. Messiah says we don’t worry about the spec in our newborns eye while we have a plank in our own. Ras is absolutely correct. We must first solve our own problems before we can solve the problems of outsiders who want in but don’t wish to sojourn with us.
You mentioned “Christlike”. You and Christians act like messiah was some sort of bitch who just walked around taking **** from everyone. Messiah stood in the face of the leaders and called them snakes and vipers. He called them a name that we translate as “hypocrisy “ or “ Hypocrit” but a better word is pretender or actor.
Finally I’ve forgotten more about the law of the most high, both letter and spirit, than you’re interested in knowing. You see, you start with the application definitions of the law (I’m sure you know where to find that) and work to your beliefs. As opposed to what you’re doing which is having a belief and twisting scripture to fit what you think. Pretender.

A lot of wresting bs in order justify not being Christlike via policy, which is the spirit of the law.

Nobody is saying solve their problems, I'm saying stop being a problem for them.
