To the extent they've ever been enough of a party to even experience a 'collapse', it's as likely that two years of leftist control of DC has alerted those with some empathy towards libertarianism, that feckless voting for libertarians installs those least like them.
More plainly, voting libertarian is an idiotic, unaware form of nihilism in which the 'party' is used by anti-caps/anti-property rights and anti-American entities to further fascism and render libertarians more obscure, it that's possible. Meanwhile, libertarians think they're getting a bigger place setting at a table they're not even seated at.
