The "official" Lost thread

My point is, they really didn't explain anything, only opened more questions.

What type of explanation are you expecting? Mother told them not to go into the tunnel, he did and now he is smokey . We all know who smokey is and what he can do. Do you want a scientific explanation?

I don't think they will.

if they don't then i'll be pretty disappointed. i understand what you're saying about the show being more about asking questions, and i've pretty much accepted that there will probably be certain things left unanswered at this point....but i want to say that they'll explain the plotline concerning the light since it's part of the main story.

Maybe something a little more in depth than "Do what mommy says".

Who was the mother? Where did she come from? Why did she kill the real mother? Why did MIB see the dead mother? How did she know all the crap about the light? What was the secret drink she gave Jacob? Why the heck did the MIB not get a name after 30 years? Was he just "Brother", or "Not Jacob"?

....then again i could be wrong so who knows. not alot would surprise me at this point. the more i think about it the more i could see the writers leaving the interpretation of the light up to the viewers rathar than giving an actual explanation of it. it's going to piss alot of people off if they do that and complete the series in and open-ended way....but it's Lost so anything could happen..

They are not going to answer all of our questions. The creators/writers have said this already.

Sorry

they did explain stuff. but the stuff that was explained was releated more to the side stories and/or the history of the island. the main question(s) were still left unanwered

Well this is where I guess we disagree, or I guess more specifically we have different satisfaction levels.

Yes, they gave what is technically an explanation....but it's my feeling that it wasn't really much of of an explaination because it created more questions than it answered. Kind of a one step forward two steps back deal.

Granted we have 3.5 hours of Lost left so it's possible some of it gets explained.

Sort of like Pulp Fiction and the suitcase :)

I just think that sometimes its better not to explain things because no matter what there explanation is it will never be as cool as we expect it to be. George Lucas ruined the Force by telling us what it was yet the light in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction is still pretty cool.

This is true.

I enjoyed tonight's episode, but I do feel like they wasted too much time in the sideways world and the end is feeling rushed.

Well I knew that, but that was the quesitons I already had...now I have more they won't answer.

As long as they answer the MAIN questions we all have...I will be moderately satisfied.

They couldn't answer all of our questions even if they had another season.....because like Jacobs "mother" said tonight...every question answered only breeds another question.

Doesn't matter

Doesn't matter

So she could keep the kids and they would take over. Thats why she said "Thank You" when she was about to die

To keep the story moving along

To keep the story moving along

Who knows. It can't be that important because Jacob gave it to MIB later.

He has a name but we don,t need to know it just yet.

that's really the main problem i'm having with the show at the moment. they're throwing pretty much everything at us at the very end and it's making things kind of messy and unorganized.

Using your logic in answering these questions, I could give the same answers about questions about Jacob and the MIB in general, making this episode needless.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but haven't they had the whole thing written out for a very long time? Therefore being quite organized?

Here's the main question I have: Jacob's brother is dead, so does that mean the smoke monster is NOT Jacob's brother, but just took the form of Jacob's brother after he died?

Maybe somehow when Jacob's brother went into the light, that released the smoke monster from there and killed Jacob's brother at the same time.

That's something to think about.

supposedly, although sometimes i have caught myself second guessing them. these last few episodes have just felt really rushed, especially with it being at the very end of the series. throwing everything together like this when almost at the conclusion of the show just makes everything somewhat jumbled, regardless if they planned it out that way or not.

From what I read, they had a beginning and an end, but I've heard various accounts about how much of the in between story they had.
