The "official" Lost thread

Here's the main question I have: Jacob's brother is dead, so does that mean the smoke monster is NOT Jacob's brother, but just took the form of Jacob's brother after he died?

Maybe somehow when Jacob's brother went into the light, that released the smoke monster from there and killed Jacob's brother at the same time.

That's something to think about.

I was thinking the same thing.

but didn't the MIB still appear as himself after his "Smokey form" terrorized and killed off the crew of the black rock? he also made several appeances in that episode with and talking to jacob so i'd say that theory is out the window. i don't think there's any doubt that the smoke monster is the MIB. the show has hinted at it too strongly to believe otherwise at this point.

But Smokey wants to get off the island just like MIB so I'd have to guess that Smokey and MIB are the same person...err...thing.

Yes he has appeared as himself after he became smokey. Maybe smokey needed a body to take the form of to be released and can only be seen by everyone as the form of MIB. That would explain why he needed Lockes body to take his form.

that's true. either way we'll see i guess. these next 2 episodes can't get here soon enough. at this point i'm just ready for everything to be tied together and ended

Ok so this is what I can't figure out. MIB gets knocked out, wakes up and everyone is dead. Did mother do this? How could she? Is she really smokey and this was all an elaborate trick to get one of them to go down into the well?

We have seen time and time again that smokey can't make people do things but he/she has to make them think it was there idea. So she cant just throw one of them down into the light so she has to make one of them throw the other in.

If she was Smokey would MIB have been able to stab and kill her? We saw "Locke" get stabbed this season with no affect to him.

Maybe that was the purpose of the stuff that Jacob had to drink.

Jacob drinks the "wine" and becomes the protector, MIB goes into the light and becomes smokey. I like the idea that at one time they were one in the same as mother. We have always been told that smokey is the islands security system and that might have been the case before MIB took over and made smokey a bitter angry version of itself.

Some thoughts:

Still looking like a Garden of Eden\Birth of Civilization story to me. Either aliens, ancient civilizations, whatever. Same theme either way.

MIB doesn't have a name, he's just 'brother'. Desmond calls everyone brotha. Connection? Maybe the MIB represents all of us. We all want off the island I some way. We all want more, more, more. We are never satisfied. Its a faith concept I suppose - just accept life. Just speculating obviously.

Who is the father of Jacob and MIB? Are Jacob and MIB cain and his murdered bro Abel? Cain was cursed for killing Abel.

Who is the 'good' guy, Jacob or MIB?

That's what I was getting at. I don't believe the mother could have killed all of those people and destroyed MIB's well like that alone.

Another thought. Jacob and MIB are basically the guy who wants to protect the island (or light source) and the guy who wants off the island. The same roles that Jack and Sawyer seem to be falling into. I wouldn't be surprised to see them switch roles at the end though. Jack may end up wanting off the island at any cost and Sawyer may be the one who wants to stay.

Also, Jack and sawyer might end up to be brothers.

Doesn't matter

So she could keep the kids and they would take over. Thats why she said "Thank You" when she was about to die

To keep the story moving along

To keep the story moving along

Who knows. It can't be that important because Jacob gave it to MIB later.

He has a name but we don,t need to know it just yet.

Maybe she said "thank you" because she was finally able to die and no longer HAD to be the sole protector of the light and island.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but haven't they had the whole thing written out for a very long time? Therefore being quite organized?

well, just because they know the story and have it written doesn't mean they will present it in the best possible way with the time they have to do it in. I'm still hooked, so I think they are doing a great job.

probably something like that. she never said thank you to Jacob though. she said MIB was special and the thank you was for something that she must of had planned all along....with his roll with the island I assume. not sure what though.....

I don't care what anyone says, and I don't care if the conclusion contradicts this statement: JACOB IS THE EVIL ONE, NOT THE MIB.

The man in black NEVER tried to hurt Jacob, yet Jacob tackled him and beat him to a pulp twice, then threw his body into the "light" where he knew something "worse than death" would happen to the MIB. That's evil.

Could be. The name Jacob means "deceiver or "leg-puller" (comes from the Biblical story) and took what rightfully belonged to his twin brother. However, in the Bible Jacob was the second born and on Lost I think he was the first born.

I see some parallels with the Cain and Abel story here, the twist is we were set up to believe Jacob represented good, now it appears the story may be taking us in the opposite direction. Locke mentioning Adam and Eve in season 1 and having it repeated again last night is important, though I'm not exactly sure how important it may end up being.

Another thought I had last night is the ship and the slaves it was carrying we saw last week. I have a feeling the ships slaves and the dynamite it was carrying were somehow meant to try to close up and hide, or perhaps expose the many "sources of light" found on the island. It is just a hunch I have.
