The "official" Lost thread

Lots of stuff in Lost about civilization too. Check out this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Short_History_of_Progress

It describes a book discussing the nature of progress, civilization, etc. It sounds an awful lot like the propaganda films from the early Lost episodes.

Just another note about civilization as per Lost. It certainly looks like MIB left his simple lif in nature to go to the 'others' where they appeared to be attempting to build some kind of more advanced civilization. Lots of talk by MIB of the brilliant men, great ideas, science, etc. of the others being used to attempt to escape the island\nature.

And didn't Smokie say something to Desmond about people digging wells all over the island in search of something? And that they were "very curious" people.

Hm interesting...

Just another thought along the path of Lost. Most would probably agree that we've been given subtle hints along the way. I think one of them is the huge, very old-looking tree we've seen in so many recent episodes. I've said before I think we are watching a version of the Adam and Eve\Birth of Civilization story. I think the tree could be either the Tree of Life or the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Maybe the roots tap into the light source, who knows, but I think it is significant.

Another is the tapestry that Mom was weaving. It's been in prior episodes too. I don't think it's an accident or irrelevant.

Just pondering.

The tree is not important.

Something also and not sure if this has been brought up. When Ben stabbed Jacob, he let him speak first. I don't think Jacob is "dead".

We got to know a little about Richard a couple of episodes back, he was given "a job" by Jacob. What interests me is that in just about every episode I've seen him in he has worn black like the MIB. His "job" was to take care of the island but as he has stated in the last few episodes he believes Jacob lied to him. With the MIB possibly being smokey do you think it possible Jacob wanted another to take the place of the MIB for some reason?

Perhaps someone has a better explanation for Richard and the role he plays? As it stands now they have left a loose end to tie up concerning him IMO.

I'd stay out of this thread if you're just starting the series.

i'd probably take chavis's advice mania. unless you're a huge spoiler junkie, you're probably going to hate yourself for reading alot of the stuff in here if you're serious about actually following the series.
