The "official" Lost thread

Well then that just means they didn't explain anything at all. What was the island? What was the light source? Did these peole have this experience just because they landed on a magical island or do all people have a similar experience when they die? The hole. Thing makes no sense at all. Perfect for the writers because nobody can ever figure it out and the arguments will continue for years. What a screwjob.

Remember when Lucas explained The Force in the Phantom Menace....and it really sucked and pretty much ruined Star Wars?

That's why they didn't fully explain the Island and all about it. Part of why it's cool is the mystery.

The show was never about the island IMO, it was about the characters.

Well the island and all of its mysteries are what drew people to the show, not the character drama. And they failed to explain anything at all about the island. Lame imo.

Really? I completely disagree. Go back to the earlier seasons, we didn't know anything about the island being so special, nothing about Jacob or MIB. It was all about the characters.

So, only 5 of the original people who crashed both lived and left the island: Sawyer, Kate, Claire, Walt, and Aaron (if you count him).

Hurley, Bernard, Rose, and Vincent all lived but never left the island.

And I wonder if Kate and Sawyer lived happily ever after when they left the island? My guess is yes.

No, it didn't have anything at all to do with the polar bear, the smoke monster, the statue, ageless Richard, the Dharma brainwashing movies, the numbers, the hatch, etc. Etc. Etc. It was all the soap opera love stories. Total failure as a show if for no other reason than the ending.

Well it was actually only 123 hours so....not quite 6 years.

123 hours watching and countless hours wondering, discussing, reading this now worthless thread, etc. Whatever it adds up to, I want it back. But I'm guessing all of that time is . . . LOST.

I agree with all this. The show was character driven at it's very core. Thus the flashbacks/flashforwards/flashsideways in every single episode. They wanted you to know everything about these characters and fall in love with them... and everyone did.

The sci-fi stuff was just a sideshow in these people's journey.

hurley was one of the oceanic 6, so he did leave the island at one point.

All that you put was explained. If you didn't like it, I'm sorry bro.

Some people aren't going to be happy because all of the Island questions weren't answered. Honesty, I think its one of those things where the Island is to big to understand completely. Even Jacob didn't completely understand the island and it's history.

Sawyer had a kid, he probably went to find him/her. My guess is, everybody that left the island remained very close to one another afterward. It would be almost impossible not to.

Explained how? As part of someone's purgatory experience? Fail. Answer me this: if the island and its mysteries weren't important, why have a magical island at all?

The island wasn't purgatory. There had to be a setting to draw people in even more. I'm not saying it wasn't important, but learning everything about it was never what it was about and we were never going to get all those answers. I thought that was widely accepted.

All that means to me is that the writers lacked the ability to slay the dragon they had created. But again, they win because the arguments will never end based on that so-called ending.

the polar bear, the number's, richard's age, the dharma initiative, and the hatches were all explained in the show. the statue and the smoke monster (to an extent) were the only things that you mentioned that were left somewhat vague. at least that's how i saw it.

I don't think they needed to explain everything. But it would have been nice if they explained anything at all. They explained nothing at all about the island.

I like the mystery of the island. For me, the ending has always been about what happened to the characters, so I'm very satisfied.

the polar bear, backstory of the smoke monster, richard's age, the dharma initiative, and the hatches were all explained in the show. the statue and numbers were the only things that you mentioned that were left without much of a backstory IMO, and the smoke monster too to a certain extent.....although the numbers didn't really need that much of an explanation IMO. it was mostly a superstition throughout the show and mostly something that kept making appearances for fun. at least that's how i saw it.

They "explained" thos things only to the extent of a magic hole in the ground filled with light. A circular explanation at best. Meaningless.
