The "official" Lost thread

I happened to get into this show right around the time my interest in podcasts peaked.
Anyone download Jay and Jack or the Official Lost podcast over the past few years?

It may have been answered here already but was Richard at the church? I don't remember seeing him.

Oh I understand it as well as anyone can. I just think it sucked. Perhaps your opinion is a classic example of buying into all the hype surrounding the show and forcing yourself to like an ending that sucked out loud.

No you don't. They told you in the final minutes of the show what was real and what wasn't yet you still fail to understand it. You own quote proves this.
Am I the only one who thought the ending sucked out loud? I don't care how you slice it, that was a purgatory story. Sideways, backwards, whatever, purgatory was involved and that renders everything else meaningless. The light source, the island, whatever - all basically a figment of someone's imagination.

Any ideas of whether or not this show might spark another series or have the writers ruled that out already?

I do feel like they missed out on some big opportunities with characters such as Eko (was one of my favorites).

they tried with him

According to ABC and Lost insiders, Adewale (Mr. Eko) was offered a hearty sum to do one scene in the last hurrah, but the actor wanted five times the amount that was offered. It didn't work out.

I don't really see how it could.

edit: Do you mean like a spin-off or a Flash-Forward type show?

Either way, a continuation of the islands history with new characters or perhaps a spin off. I think either way it would most likely be a mistake. If you like the way the story ended then you would hate the new plot and feel it was a continuation of a story that was and should be already ended. If you didn't like the ending you would probably not like the direction the writers were going to take from the beginning and still come away disappointed.

Damon and Carlton have already stated this is it, they plan on going their separate ways and not even talk about this show for a while. Of course if you wanted to milk this you could explore Hurley and Ben's years on the island after Jack's demise. Or possibly make a prequel like show that shows life on the island pre- Jacob MIB storyline. Or get real silly and have a buddy cop show with Sawyer and Miles.

I would love to see a show with the combination of Terry, Michael, and Matthew. They are brilliant actors and they work so well with each other.

I think you can bank at least one or two of these actors getting a new show. I honestly think Matthew will continue down the movie route until that well runs dry. Micheal could end up going back to the stage but his stock is so high right now he might be best to keep on the tube for now.

What blows me away is the amount of supporting roles Terry and Micheal have been in over the years. I happened to catch a episode of Star Trek NG a few weeks ago and there is Captain Locke playing an awesome bad guy.

We're going through the X Files seasons and in season 2 Locke played a detective in one of the episodes.

So I am disappointed in the character of Ilana. It looked like she was being built up as an important character this season, even getting a flashback showing when Jacob visited her, and then she just dies suddenly with the dynamite and that's it.

Well now that you've straightened that out for me . . . I still think the end sucked. Look, the problem isn't that some stuff isn't explained, or that they rely on mystery or mysticism, or allegory, or whatever. Its that the show was never presented that way. The writers touted the island as real, up to the very end, as so many of you have pointed out, and they baited the audience by implying that explanations would come. Even just a few episodes ago Richard said hat he knew what the island was, with the implication that the audience would find out. We didn't, of course. I just think the writers got themselves into a pickle that they couldn't escape. So they copped out and performed the biggest bait an switch in the history of tv.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

The island was real, the alt time-line wasn't. Plus, they have already told us what the island is. I don't know how much more of an explanation you need.
