The Official Michael Cohen Testimony Thread

Would our elections be better or worse off if candidates paying people to keep silent was a common practice?

As I understand it you can use campaign funds for this purpose you just have to report it to the FEC as a campaign contribution.

hush money in general is legal. hush money in a campaign is legal if you disclose it.

Clinton was impeached.

Now you’re being intentionally dishonest. Don’t be so pathetic. You and I both know both the house and the senate have to impeach the president (or at least I would hope an attorney would know that)

And we both know the chamber controlled by the democrats did not impeach him.

So do they lack integrity?

Then what was the campaign finance crime that Cohen pleaded guilty to?

He plead to a charge. He chose to do so evidently because it was a plea deal. Had it gone to trial there's no indication one way or the other if he would have been found guilty.

Impeachment means to bring charges against. He was impeached by the House, just not convicted by the Senate.

Actually, not even all the Republicans voted to convict.

At any rate, you have to put it all in context. Combine obstruction and perjury with documented lies about so much else, it becomes a moral imperative to return the country to a semblance of respect and honor by dumping Trump.

What obstruction?

But it's actually covered by a statute and not something made up out of thin air.

Now he only has incentive to make Trump into a liar.

I'm pretty sure that after today a pardon from Trump is definitely off the table. I do think Trump should keep him on his Christmas card list ... with some good party pictures just to remind Cohen how much fun he's missing.

Lulz - just won another bet with myself.

Not sure where the "obstruction" is unless you also consider Clinton's perjury as obstruction.

That’s not true. It’s only a crime if it was done for political reasons. That would be nearly impossible to prove.

Even then, it’s a paperwork error. It’s not exactly a smoking gun.

correct but there's no indication that Cohen would have been convicted and his guilty plea was his way of avoiding even harsher charges for other crimes.

the reality is Cohen pleading to it tells us nothing about whether it's a criminal allegation that could gain a conviction against Trump. It's also complicated by the fact that Cohen won't be available as a witness (if it were charged against Trump) since he's going to the pokey.

the "crime" is entirely theoretical.

With proof, allusion to witnesses, and an authentic description of events which have a ring of truth, especially in dealing with a President who lies to us multiple times, every day

Lying is expected of people at the top of corporate ladders, politicians, the media,, and most definitely lawyers. They just do it with an industry specific flair. Trump is just an outlier ... he mixed up the parts ... marketing clown in a political suit.
