Agree. Bortles does not throw receivers open, I mean at all. He is real inconsistent at hitting windows. His footwork is not good for a pro QB. Somebody may get through to him eventually, but he will never pick a team up on his shoulders and carry them.
MM already has done that before. He is light years ahead. He just needs a passing scheme that actually works and the ability to get in sync with his receivers. People forget that he is throwing to several inexperienced guys. They are talented, but have been injured and trying to figure it all out as rookies and second year guys. Even Decker was new to MM. Coninuity and a better scheme will help him immensely. Bortles - not so much. He's got a lot of personal development stuff to get done.
Idk Bortles did alright last year and that was without Allen Robinson
Coughlin and Marrone did a hell of a job in year 1
Allen Hurns , Marquise Lee and Leonard Fournette all missed significant time with injuries too I believe
Rookies Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook had to fill in and did very well
Jags are seriously deep at WR
Fournette and Yeldon are perfect compliments to each
They picked up Calais Campbell and AJ Bouye in free agency to bolster the defense and both turned out to be fantastic pick ups. Campbell made first team all pro and close to winning defensive player of the year and Bouye went from a nobody to 2nd team all pro
Top to bottom Jags are one of the five most loaded teams in the league IMO
Between the draft and free agency the they have done a hell of a job the last few years. Well see if it continues but if it does watch out
They got some valuable playoff exp last year if they can add another piece or 2 and maybe draft a good young back up qb to step in when necessary they should be built to last
But it aint easy finding a good QB in the draft esp when your nowhere near the top 10 picks
I know one thing the defense should be badass again. I think 6 guys made the pro bowl last year and they all should be returning
