The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

I don’t want NYG anything. Talk about a losing franchise. You’d think the NFL game fixers would want them to be better.
They've won 3 Super Bowls in my lifetime. The Titans have been to 1 and lost in that same time frame. I know they've sucked recently, but definitely wouldn't call them a losing franchise.

Always a power struggle and you never know if it is the coach or GM
I think all coaches should have full control. You add in a VP and it gets even worse.

Fair enough. It was more of a dig on the fixed NFL discussion.

But, he’s been an OC for 2 seasons. He is experienced at coaching a crappy offensive line at least. He’s basically an “Andy Reid offense” play if hired.

I hope you fools who thought firing Vrabel was a good idea have fun with our new coach that doesn't have

4 winning seasons in 6 years
2 division titles
No.1 seed with the most injured roster in NFL history
AFC title game appearance

All with Ryan effing Tannehill as your QB

Wake me up when a coach does better than that

It's worth noting we did play in the worst division in football during that run. And as soon as they got better, we were toast.

Lol huh?

That's what it was? That's really your best argument?

Our offensive line completely fell apart, we have the most banged up roster in league history and J-Rob traded away AJ Brown.

If every player on the team wasnt hurt last year we waltz into the playoffs.

Convenient to ignore the fact we beat literally every other great franchise in the NFL and some of them multiple times. BECAUSE OF VRABELS COACHING.

I don't think we'd waltz to playoffs last year since we had a bad offensive coordinator. we didn't make playoffs this year because of a bad special teams coach.

I'm not saying it's the only reason for our success during that period, it's just a fact. The division sucked.

Look, I liked Vrabel. Solid coach. But he inherited a team that was already stacked when he got here. And him making the switch to “Ryan effing Tannehill” 7 games into the season is the only reason that magical run in 2019 happened. His teams failing to do jack squat in the 2020 and 2021 postseasons is what really set the stage for all this. That was his window.

Vrabel had a good run here, but nowhere near good enough to warrant what he was demanding.

Questionable coaching hires/retentions, special teams play that had fallen into absolute s*** under his watch, an S&C program and style of play that had us fielding teams constantly plagued by injury, sometimes to historic levels, failing to score 30 points in 2 calendar years, 6-18 over his last 24 games, etc.

None of that is the mark of a guy who deserves complete control of the roster. If that was in fact his expectation, Amy dodged a bullet.

Stacked? Really? Solid at best.

You know what he did? Maximized the roster talent, got a gold QB (not a great one) and became one of the best teams in the NFL.

There's no way you can prove that the S&C has anything to do with guys soft tissue injuries. The only reason we lost to the Bengals was because Ryan Tannehill decided to piss his britches. What QB was Vrabel suppose to get? Tom Brady? How could he have gotten better than him? Short of that he maximized the talent on the roster with a specific scheme. Run game play action defense. Couldn't have won any other way with that roster.

But in today's NFL you have ZERO room for mistakes. One and a half bad years and you're done no matter what the context of your situation and its abundantly clear it was not all on Vrabel, because no one in their right mind thinks he can't coach and to posit that Amy (born into a billion dollar fortune) Adams better knows what to do with a football team than Mike Vrabel is sheer lunacy.

But yeah, let's have blind faith in some coordinator, and Ran Will Levis Carthon.

Hoping for a miracle.

He won playing solid defense with a unicorn at running back. While everyone else in the league was adjusting personnel to smaller faster backs we had the one guy in the league with big size.

Not minimizing what Vrabel did at all. But he caught lightning on a bottle a couple of times. He's a solid to very good NFL coach. He wanted something from the organization that ownership wasn't willing to give. And instead of letting it go toxic we let him go his way and the Titans went theirs. There are very few had coaches in this league that are difference makers, at this point I'm not sure you can say Vrabel is one of them...... Yet he was wanting the control of one.

I don't dislike Vrabel at all, I liked him. But this seems the best for both parties IMO.

Umm, yes, the team had 6 pro bowlers the year before and won a playoff game. It was stacked.

I hear ya but that 2019 season playoff run was the most fun I’ve had watching the Titans since the McNair/George years. Hope whoever gets the job is able to motivate the guys like Vrabel.

Pierce and Macdonald interviews in the books. Pierce is probably a lock for the Raiders. Must say that Macdonald piques my interest. #1 this year in defense for scoring. Defensive side would be taken care of and aggressive while rebuilding the O to a more current scheme. Could be the quickest path back to the playoffs.
