The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

Interesting. Modern metrics really don't capture McNair. He would glide along until you really needed a 3rd and 7 pick up. He would elevate to the situation.

Well, I would think Dak has a bit left in the tank. Unsure how to pay him?

But, looking at those other 32 names... Perhaps trade the 1st pick to Jags and try Lawrence.

If Dallas believed that, they wouldn't trade him. He was great in '23 but his numbers were also a little inflated, and IMO we can't ignore how bad he was in '24 just because it wasn't a full season

A drop that drastic makes me question the supporting cast far more than the QB. But he has multiple years of high level play. Not just 2023.

He has had the pleasure of stat padding against the NFC East for 6 games per year. Witht he exception of a few years of good eagles teams, it is pretty weak competition. He destroys bad teams and just doesn't get things done at playoff time. Would Titans fans be OK with that? Putting up big numbers and then tripping on his shoelaces in the playoffs? People wanna talk about stats, look at his stats aginst playoff teams and when he is actually in a playoff game. He has a handful of good games, but mostly average to bad.

I’m not sure what your obsession with top 5 is. But I stated previously that PFF had him 6th coming into the season. The 6th best QB in any given season is capable of top 5 play. But in no way do I believe you have to have a top 5 QB.
The infatuation with Top 5 qb is that he is the highest paid qb in the league. He's making more per year than anyone else, his performance does not match that, and it becomes a hinderance to what team you can build. What PFF ranks him is irrelevant to me. If you ask anyone what qb you want leading your team on a final drive, Dak probably won't even get mentioned. He doesn't make other offensive players better, and he's not able to compensate for shortcomings in other positions. When you have to improve the other offensive players around your 60 million dollar qb for him to play well, you know someone in your org f****d up.

I'm not really arguing whether anyone should or should not want Dak as their qb. Only that he is on a stupid contract and I think anyone would be mistaken to want that. He's a good qb, but not for what he's getting paid. You may not have to have a Top 5 qb, but I don't think you can win with a 8th or worse qb when you're paying him #1 money. You better be making every draft pick hit.

He would be the best QB to ever play for the Titans.
you are correct…..but

If you named the top 4 QBs in each franchise’s history….and then ranked them the Oilers/Titans would be in the #30-#32 range…..so the “best” isn’t saying much…..

I mean:
McNair
Moon
Blanda
Pastorini

That’s bad

And following each of those high level play years he has a not so great year..... Often due to injury. He's pretty consistent with up year, followed by a down year.
