The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

Very impressive to come out with the W despite all of the injuries, I’m proud of the way they played today. That fake punt was a thing of beauty as well.

This thread is pretty frustrating to read through. I will never understand it when people call a loss in a close game in the 3rd quarter...

Titans suffered some major setbacks in game 1. It will take a lot to rebound from that, but I'll take a divisional victory anytime and any way.

I can’t speak for everyone else, but that’s just my anger coming through. I’m much more rational both before and after the game, never during.

How is that not a loss of down?

Apparently it wasn’t because - while it was a second forward pass thrown - it was still thrown from behind the line of scrimmage.

(a) For a forward pass from beyond the line: Loss of down and five yards from the spot of the pass. See 14-8-2. See S.N. 3 below.
(b) For a second forward pass from behind the line, or for a forward pass that was thrown after the ball returned behind the line: Loss of five yards.

Thanks for telling me something I already posted about 3 hours ago.

Probably because most people assumed it was an illegal forward pass which is a loss of down if beyond the line of scrimmage. I didn't know there's a different rule if it's batted back to you behind the LOS.

While it helped the Titans, it's pretty stupid IMO to have that disctinction.

And couldn’t Houston decline it?

I mean they could, but it would just be an incomplete pass, making it 3rd and 7 at the HOU 35...which would also still be in field goal range (52 yard attempt if no extra yardage were gained on the next play).

I’m guessing the thinking there was that - if there was no option of TEN losing a down and/or yards in a tie game with about 2 min left - accepting the penalty at least pushed TEN back into a more difficult 57-yard field goal range (and a loss of even a yard in the next two plays - whether it be a run-for-a-loss, QB sack, or even something like a false start could make the already tough try extremely difficult...ending up in a situation where more than a yard was lost in that situation would pretty much force TEN to punt).

The Jags left tackle Cam Robinson is out,

Harold Landry looked really good in his debut he was getting double teamed at the end of the game. He could have a breakout game this week.

That was 1 of the greatest or best Titans Texans games, and the best Titans game I saw.

I can yes I saw a masterpiece excellent unforgettable exciting dramatic game that became a close game.

I was wrong about Henry having a great game didn't run for more than 105 yards and 2 tds didn't happen since he had 0 still he was effective, Mariota didn't throw for more than 2 tds since didn't start, Titans didn't win 49-17 in a no sweat win steamrolling the Texans.

Why I was right.
Still on the mark with the Titans start fast since scored 1st 14 points and that was in 1st half including fake punt and threw to a safety and he ran fast for a td.
Third game the charm and break through for seeing the Titans at home defeat a afc foe.
Titans did make a great statement because bend but don't break Titans defense that had a impressive int in the endzone, kept Texans scoreless for most of 1st half, able to tie Texans 17, used a game winning drive eating up clock and a game winning fg kicked, the Texans were able to move the football for the final possession including in Titans territory except since Watson held the football for more than 4 seconds the Texans long pass was futile since titans defense tackled the Texans wr with time expiring because no timeouts for Houston.
While the Titans didn't make the great statement in way I said the Titans would steamrolling the Texans, they still made a great statement with a great tough win that had adversity.

Watson and the Texans will forever remember the day the Titans showed in the rematch in Nashville he would not get the better of the Titans defense along with the Titans soul crushing the Texans.

Titans were outscored 2nd half 13-6, still won with a valiant tough gutsy great win in the rematch with the talented fast reliable Texans qb Watson and a mostly full strength Texans team.
Clowney a Texans stud heavyweight defense player didn't play.

Gabbert was a game manager and like (Disney) Remember The Titans qb Ronnie Sunshine played mistake free as in no big mistakes because no ints and no fumbles, plus able to move the ball.

Clowney didn't play.

They tied the game with a long drive 17-17, and again a long drive to kick the game winning field goal.
Great to see The Texans defense wasn't embarrassing and dominating the Titans along with Watt looking silly for some plays or not effective including with Gabbert escaped and threw a great pass to Stocker looked like Ronnie Sunshine on that play and for bulk of game since he was effective.
Also since Watt wasn't a disruptor he didn't get many chances to use that frustrating finger no no no no finger movement.

I know they made him a game manager but doesn't change still played great was a ace, the only real flaw was the whole violation by throwing the ball that he caught a rookie style mistake.

I think it was a great game plan and well coached game. Knowing how over matched we were on the O line going in I liked the fake punt, staying agressive at times, running the wild cat and the D showing up

great game I did not expect to win...

Yeah I was more impressed with Vrabel and company than anything. Been a while since I left a game feeling like we won because we thoroughly out coached somebody.

Hearing that Mariota will be questionable to play yet again. I know there's a lot of season left, but unless he comes back and really tears it up down the stretch, it's seriously getting to the point at which I would totally understand Vrabel/Robinson taking a QB in one of the early rounds next season. Technically, neither of those guys is "tied" to Mariota. I love Marcus' demeanor and potential, but it means absolutely nothing if he can't stay on the field.

Only conceivable positive I can muster from this is that if he has another dud of a season, which he'll be well on his way to doing if he misses this week, we could probably lock him up on the relative cheap.
