The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

You guys go off the deep end quickly. After a 9-7 season and a trajectory towards an 8-8 season you all are already projecting the team moving.

Calm down.

I do want Mularky gone, I have no idea who to replace him with.

The thing is, big picture, does 9-7 and 8-8, fresh on the heels of 2-14 and 3-13, automatically warrant a 3rd year?

I personally hope not, but I do believe a legitimate case could and probably will be made that it does.

I just can't get passed the disappointment. A whole lot of build up for nothing......either the Offense stinks and the Defense plays well or the Offense plays well and the Defense stinks. I think Marcus can be a solid QB under the right OC and I think Henry has a lot of upside. Some of the play calls these last 2 games have been Horrid....dropped passes, bad line play, bad direction by Murray......and the Pass D hasn't been great all year but gosh, yesterday was atrocious. Sims, McCain, and Adoree seem to be lost at times. Tackling is poor at best. The safeties are out of position and when the big play is given up they all seem to stare at each other like "was that me or you?" I'm sick to death of watching the DB's do their little celebration when a pass isn't caught like they had something to do with it and the replay clearly shows it was too high or in the dirt or wide......the 49ers could've scored at least one more TD yesterday if the throws were accurate. The target was wide ass open in the paint and there's no excuse for that.

Another question is how much do you trust ownership to get it right?

Let’s look at the Chicago Bears as an example.

Lovie Smith is there from 2004-2012. Over his time there he gets them to a super bowl and conference championship. He was 81-63 in his tenure and had 5 seasons above .500 out of 9. He was let go after a 10-6 season. Since then they haven’t been above .500.

I bring that up because it seems that the organization has to get the hire right or things could get really bleak. How much do we trust the organization?

I trust the ownership not one damn bit. I would be hopeful that Robinson would have more input on the next hire, seeing as how Mularkey was basically forced on him.

Even our owner would have to admit that Robinson has improved the roster to a point at which the right guy could come in and win almost immediately. Still a few holes that need to be plugged on D, but by and large, it would be a very ideal situation. I know Mariota, Lewan, and Casey were already here, but one would still think JRob would have earned some input in such a scenario.

Regardless, my gut tells me Mularkey will get another year and we likely just change OCs.

I just want to get to the post season. Is clinching a wild card spot really too much to ask? The last time we made the playoffs was 2008... Its been too long.

Did anyone belse see where Rashad Matthews basically called out the coaching staff on the last drive of the game?

He was telling the truth. It says something about the team when a player heavily implies that their QB is a better play caller than their OC, and it wasn't only Matthews.

Rishard Matthews said:
Because Marcus is back there calling the shots. He gets to look at the defense and see what’s going on and the ball is kind of in his court, so I think we’re very successful when we’re doing that, and I think that’s been shown.”

Delanie Walker said:
“That’s his niche, no huddling up. We’re a pretty good conditioned team. And I don’t think other teams can run with us when we’re in no-huddle. And I think it works for him. I really can’t say why he’s better in the no huddle.”

Taylor Lewan said:
“The offense, we started to find our identity of what we want to be. Marcus did a great job in those no-huddle situations. He calls those plays, and put us in some good situations.”

We're still in it, but relying on other teams to lose is never a recipe for success. But I'll take the playoffs any way we can get them at this point.

Really this time of year though, unless you’re one of the top two seeds you need help to clinch anyway but I agree with what you’re saying. We may end up, if we make it, going one and done unless we win the division. Right now we’d play Kansas City in Arrowhead and then head to New England. We really need to drop our sack and figure out a way to beat the Rams and take the division in Nashville.

It’s not just on our end. If Jacksonville beats San Francisco this weekend, they take the division period on overall record alone. Regardless of whatever we do or don’t do against the Rams.

I wasn’t aware of that. Would really like to see the 9ers win in that case.

If I was Derrick Henry, I would request a trade. Malarkey is about as big of an idiot as Butch Jones. They would be the only 2 coaches to start all the bench players and have a sideline full of stars watching the team suck it up.

If the Jaguars lock up the division, do you think they rest anyone when they play against us?

That’s a good question. I would imagine they would.

Depends if anything else is on the line. Technically, if Jacksonville wins out and Pittsburgh loses a game in the next two weeks, the Jags would move ahead of them to the 2-seed by tiebreakers. Honestly, the Jags are even still alive for the 1-seed spot depending on how New England’s games go.

So in all likelihood, unless Jacksonville loses to San Francisco AND Tennessee loses to the Rams next week...then it’s looking like they’re probably playing their starters during the last week.

So it’d be best for the Titans this weekend for:

-Oakland to lose to the Eagles
-LA Chargers to lose to the Jets (OR Chargers to lose to Oakland, after the Eagles beat the Raiders this week)
-Dolphins to lose to the Chiefs

-It would help if Baltimore could somehow lose their next two games against the Colts and Bengals....

-It could also help if the Bills lose their next two games to New England and Miami.

That's a lot to ask for, but thankfully none of it's out of the question outside of Baltimore.
