The Official Tennessee Titans thread IV

They did reschedule games that got cancelled because of the infamous 9-11-2001 terrorist attacks that got moved late in the season as in Christmas winter season.

That’s why I am confident the Steelers Titans game could just get rescheduled to a new day which most likely I expect happens.

The NFL has vast money so this really wouldn’t be a lack of money flaw to fix this issue.
Rescheduling one weekend's games across the entire league is not the same as one game between two teams. The open dates don't match so that's out. Might push it to a Monday night but unlikely one day will make much of a difference. Unless they want to delay the entire playoff schedule one week and then lose the open date before the Super Bowl, I don't see an easy way to reschedule.

Ok I’m completely wrong because apples to oranges with 9-11 reschedule involved all NFL teams that is oranges, and the apples involved only 2 NFL teams for the current problem Steelers Titans game because of Titans players tested positive for the coronavirus.

I wonder what the NFL uses since most likely the Steelers Titans game won’t get played since finding a great solution is mostly unreachable and I’ll list this as a undeniable example of you can’t achieve anything you set your mind to.

The NFL wants the Steelers Titans game to get played except only if they can find a great rescheduled date that doesn’t have any issues or drawbacks for the rest of the 30 teams in the NFL.

If the 2 teams Steelers and Titans get to play 15 regular season games I can live with that because would be dumb to record the unplayed game as a tie.
Also because 15 of 16 regular season games played still is the 2nd highest amount.

That’s a little bit different, though, because they just pushed back an entire week of football - one played by every team across the league - to the very end of the season and pushing back the playoffs, which they were to do/ balance out because of the already present bye week between the Conference Championships and the Super Bowl (they just removed the bye week and went straight from the Conference Championship round into the Super Bowl the very next weekend). Presumably, I would think they would want to keep the Super Bowl bye week as a contingency if needed later into the season or playoffs and won't want to use the idea of a game eating up that safety net unless they have to or until they have to.

I think postponing and rescheduling is likely what will happen at some points during the season, it’s just a matter of how to properly do it with the schedules of the - say in this case - the 4 teams involved (TEN, PIT, MIN, and HOU) given their remaining schedules and current bye weeks (TEN and MIN = Week 7, HOU and PIT = Week 8). Oddly, the similar pairings of their bye weeks might create the ability to reschedule a game to those weeks at the expense of the bye week…

theoretically rescheduling TEN-PIT wouldn’t be terribly difficult, off the top of my head either:

(1) TEN-PIT game could be moved to week 7
- PIT-BAL gets moved down to week 8 (PIT and BAL original bye week)
- TEN, PIT, and BAL now have week 4 as their bye

(2) TEN-PIT game could be moved to week 8
- TEN-CIN is moved up to week 7
- CIN-CLE (who originally play week 7) is moved to week 9 (both teams’ original bye week)
- TEN & PIT now have week 4 as their bye; CIN & CLE now have week 7 as their bye

HOU-MIN is a bit more difficult. Again, HOU’s bye is week 8 and MIN’s bye is week 7. However, both play GB over those weeks (HOU-GB is week 7 and GB-MIN is week 8), GB’s bye is week 5, and GB-ATL is this weekend.

At least one of the benefits of this situation is that this is a cluster of teams that (almost) all play each other, which could also creates a little more flexibility (moving either TEN-HOU game accounts for half of the teams involved):

TEN - HOU x2 - 10/18 and 1/3
TEN - PIT - 10/4
HOU - MIN - 10/4

Though you also have PIT-CLE and MIN-ATL on 10/18 (week 6) and PIT-CLE and MIN-DET on 1/3, so those games would also need to be considered.

So you could possibly have some combination of the two, like possibly moving the TEN-PIT game to week 7 or 8 and flipping the 1/3/20 HOU-TEN and MIN-DET games to HOU-MIN and TEN-DET and trying to move things around to make the 12/19 or 12/20 date work for TEN-HOU (would get into having to do something with IND’s schedule...it would take more work than I have lain out right now).

They likely had discussed a variety of ideas, theories, or means of balancing something like this in the offseason given the situation of this football year; they planned out over the top on almost everything else, they had to have a contingency based on the possibilities of something more than just 2 games getting postponed (or in worst case, unable to be played).

Technically you've got 4 teams because the Texans and Vikings are also currently affected (at the current moment). If they had to come to terms with a complete inability of playing the game, I imagine a possible contingency would be something like the 2-4 teams using winning percentages when it came to determining tiebreakers with teams that played a full 16 games.

Considering the uncertainty across most professional sports in the offseason, I would imagine handling a year where not every team was able to play 16 games was discussed.

Total bummer. Shouldn't limit fans IMO, just block off the first 6 rows.

If there's still a game. What does it do to their - and the Vikings' - week 4 games, and how does that affect the season?
Gonna be interesting to see what happens.

Unknown at this moment. The NFL did discuss multiple contingencies for if games, weeks, or even the season had to be suspended due to escalating COVID cases. However, their decisions on the matter weren’t entirely detailed in full to the public.

According to articles, they also discussed in their matters and plans things such as a “full” season might not mean a normal 16 game season (or each team getting to play 16 games), potentially using a different formula for playoff eligibility based on a minimum number of games or seeding playoff and division titles based on overall winning percentage (which sounded like a response to an uneven number of games played), and other scenarios.

Oh well. Looks like we ain’t playing Sunday.
As of right now we are.

Well, at the moment I would say its more "as of right now a decision hasn't been made so go about your business." I wonder if they're waiting to see if anything happens with the Vikings as the week goes on / they get closer to their game with Houston?

The owner, GM, and Vrabel should absolutely refuse to play the game as scheduled with us being short handed and without practice. The best option would to make this our bye week and reschedule the game for week 8.

Wouldn't the better option be to reschedule the game for week 7? That would only effect 3 teams rather than 4 if it were moved to week 8.

I'm a season ticket holder and have seen nothing official on what time, date other than Monday or Tuesday. Just hope not late night game and that titans sign long snapper asap. Their mobile ticket app does have capability of transferring tickets/listing for sale.
