The Official Tennessee vs LSU CWS Game Thread (Tues. 6/20 7PM EST ESPN)

I’m hearing Skenes is definitely going tonight!
He’s gonna use his left arm instead of his right. Apparently he throws 150 MPH fast ball with his left arm and a change up that literally comes to a complete stop in mid-air.

Saw this on a message board so it’s most likely legit.

If there is, that’s tampering. Imho, not happening anyway
They’re baseball royalty. They’ll never get busted for it. I wouldn’t be so sure, you have people on both sides saying it’s happening. I don’t know anything, but we usually lose out in these cases.

Yes, it looks like that website is pulling CT high school rules. The NCAA rule books are all available online — baseball here, for anyone who wants to personally review. But there are no pitch count rules.
Also, IF the NCAA had any sort of pitch count rules, wouldn’t all those talking heads that pose as announcers during the games be talking about them ad nauseam regarding when their boy Skenes (or any pitcher that has been used) would be eligible to pitch again?

THe pitch count discussion is the "dumbest" thread I have seen on this or the football forum and that is a high bar. Discussion cannot be baseball fans remotely. There are no pitch count rules beyond some high school regimes and never have been. Message about talkin heads is spot on.

This is big boy ball, no strict pitch counts. Any such “rule” is merely recommendation to not overthrow someone’s arm.

Jay Johnson will probably take the Dave Van Horn school of IDGAF pitching and throw Skenes out there for 1-2 innings if needed at the end.

Christian’s confidence that Burns already has his bags packed for LSU gives me complete confidence that he ain’t leaving. Thanks!

A lot around here do too. He wants to start and they’ll pay him handsomely to do so

Word down here in SC is he’s Florida bound
According to one here he wants to start. He’s getting starter level innings and number of pitches. He was getting run in the 3rd-4th inning every game, now he’s coming in and getting a minimum of about 3 innings so the math is the same just in a different slot. He looks like he genuinely enjoys what he’s doing right now and the freedom of emotional expression this spot allows him vs. starting.

I just don’t see it. They’ve got to win 3 in a row and 5 of 6 over the next 7 days in order to win a championship. Skenes is on 2 days rest right now after throwing 120+. Winning today is necessary, but it doesn’t close anything out, etc. If they kept winning, they would have 3 elimination games in a row — they can’t throw Skenes in all of them. I would think they give him at least one more day (probably two) and get more out of him on Wednesday/Thursday, and then the time to bring him back on the really short rest would be in the final.

Tony was up his butt in the press conference yesterday, but probably deservedly so.

LSU likely uses their 9 guys an inning or 2 at a time. Likely with Riley Cooper starting.

Vols have got a lot of recent practice against lefties with a lot more control than Riley. They had a great mindset against Quinn Mathews and would have the same mindset against Cooper who is not half as good as Matthews. LSU fans love him because of his perceived toughness, but his inability to show toughness with the temptation of the Golden Corral Chocolate Wonderfall will prevent him from going 6-7 innings.

This confuses me, not to be "trying too hard", but lots of conflicting info out there

NCAA Pitching Rules in 2023: All the Updated Rules

I guess we'll see tonight.

GBO and God Bless Tiny Vitello

Besides the obvious bad info about pitch counts, that article is full of other mistakes too. It lists that each team gets one video challenge when they get 2, lists the pitch clock and video review as new rules, I can’t remember everything else. Likely a chatGPT fail where it grabbed some college and some high school data and combined.

Even if the only college baseball games you have watched in years (or ever) were this years UT World Series games…..not one time has an announcer mentioned a pitch limit in either game. Surely at some point, if such a thing existed, they would have talked about that rather than what was being cooked at tailgates. It’s baseball, the announcers have plenty of time to chat.

We won’t see Skenes tonight, even though there is no rule saying we can’t. He’s not risking what is likely a triple digit millions career over this.
