The Official UNC @ #1 Tennessee CWS Game 2 Thread (Sun. June 16) (7PM EST) (ESPN2)

My husband is awesome. We're doing this thing! Airfare and hotel booked. This is why we play the credit card points game - free travel at opportune times. View attachment 649798
What card do you use if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been telling my husband we need to start doing this.

I think we can and will beat anyone we play at least 1 out of the possible 2 games we play this week, but I just really hope it’s UNC. FSU scares me. They may not have the pitching depth, but those bats are terrifying and they are hitting the ball as well as we are. I would prefer to face the team with a less explosive offense. I think FSU could beat us twice. I have zero worry that UNC’s offense could beat us twice.
did the broadcast crew mention first time since (I think 2001) that the top 4 seeds all made it to the winners bracket? I was listening to the Vol Network so I have no clue.

We use multiple cards, as they all have different benefits and earning opportunities. The key is to maximize sign-up bonuses (called SUBs in the lingo) and to never carry a balance. If you’re interested in getting started, check out the 10X Travel Insiders Facebook group. There’s a free course you can take. Once you get the basic principles down, you’ll be amazed how quickly points add up.

In addition to booking this trip to Omaha, we’re also going on a cruise “free” booked with points next month. And we still have hundreds of thousands of points piled up for the next time we want to fly first class to Europe.

I encourage everyone to explore it. Like I said, though, you have to make sure you pay off your balance every month. You lose the value if you pay interest.

The greatly compressed strike zone allowed by the umpire had a ton to do with both teams exploding offensively.

This^^^^^ times 1000!

If Beam had gotten the same strike zone last night there is a 0% chance he goes 5 innings! When your most perfectly located pitches are called balls, like Friday night, it's nearly impossible to be very successful.

It was called much more accurately last night IMO.

Agree totally with your comments. The first umpire behind the plate was pretty decent on his calls both ways, IMO. When there’s an exaggerated compression (meaning the umps not giving the black and just off the black AND umps are calling clear strikes balls), there is no pitcher in the CWS who will be able to pitch effectively.

Exactly! Greg Maddux couldn't have been successful Friday!

The 2024 Tennessee baseball team is similar to past great Louisiana State teams and Cal State Fullerton teams that won College World Series championships mainly for the aspects they find different ways to win College World Series games, they’re exciting to watch, and an impressive offense that is most likely to score over 3 runs a game.

Omaha has been a blast. The Vols dominated last night thanks to a tremendous performance by Beam and outstanding relief by Kirby and Snead. Tears was tremendous at the plate and the defense was stellar. I’m pulling for a rematch vs NC as the offensive power of FSU is something I don’t want to face again. GBO.

Grady Smith was behind the plate for the FSU game, last night he came in to replace Cline at 2nd base, so we kind of missed a bullet. But I am not a big fan of Cline, to me he's not consistent in his calls.

IMO, we won the game in the first two innings, or if you want to extend it, the fourth. I'm not forgetting the 27 outs rule, but we really set a tone in the first two. Vols seemed extremely focused, Drew was masterful, the defense superb, the strike zone favorable with Hunter's play bringing a huge boost in confidence. I nearly blinked and missed the five pitch inning and was amused that Honeycutt tried to bunt his way on the second time he faced him

I completely missed the fifth thanks to a where-did-it-come-from thunderstorm and biblical deluge. And once I got back online, I was a bit startled by the fast-spreading BVS and was almost persuaded that the the naysayers were right/

Enter Kirby and Nate and I was well again.

Afterward, listening to Coast to Coast, the bumper music selection was

We gifted FSU at least five runs maybe more

Omaha’s Morning World-Herald headline read “6,290 See Oklahoma Clip Vols for College Baseball Title, 3-2.”

In its first program trip to Omaha, Tennessee finished second in the nation to the College World Series champion Sooners, letting a 2-0 lead slip away in a finals loss. Holding the lead until the fifth inning, the Vols watched their national title hopes slide as Sooners rounded the bases for single runs in the sixth, seventh, and eight innings.

“The Cinderella team almost made it,” reporter Robert Phipps wrote in his recap. “That would have been a great news story. But Tennessee, which seemed to lead a charmed life in the College World Series, finally ran out of luck Sunday night at Muny Stadium.”

UT outfielder Bill Asbury tallied two of three hits in the match-up. Asbury, who was born in Powell, Tennessee, and later resided in Alcoa, served as a colonel in the Tennessee Air National Guard at McGhee Tyson airbase for 30 years following his time in Knoxville. The 1951 College World Series Most Outstanding Player, Sid Hatfield, pitched eight innings of relief in the loss.
