***The Official US Open Thread***

The names mentioned here continue to shine while the bomb and gaugers are mostly struggling. While I still think they (yet again) went overboard, I appreciate that a different style of player gets to excel at a major. I really think with these greens, the par 3s would have been fine at the traditional lengths

Who are the bomb and guagers? And what exactly is that.

"Bomb and gouge" is the strategy of just hitting it as far as you can and then scraping a wedge or short iron onto the green from wherever. Think Bubba Watson.

Way too slow watching and trying to work my phone, but scary how similar our answers were

that's not talking about history dumb***. that's just stating facts. Jack Nicklaus. The Jack Nicklaus, The Golden Bear, he says the course is one of, if not the toughest test in golf. That's just a fact. It has nothing to do with what happened 40 years ago or 80. Golf Digest always ranks this course up there with all the others, usually above them. How do you want to determine who gets a US Open? You gonna pick them. Obviously you're a smarter golfer than Jack. You're the one with the issue, not me. Stating what Jack Nicklaus says about a course and what the leading golf magazine says about a course has nothing to do with "history". Notice that no one is defending your ignorance? Who really has little man syndrome?

You should either smoke some weed, get the stick out of your ass, or both. I don't like the course. Deal with it. You do. That's fine. Jack said it was a hard course when he last played it 25 years ago and with a different set up and the rough 3 inches shorter.. Great. Yes. Jack knows more about golf than me. I still can have my own opinion. I don't need a group coming to my defense to make me feel better. I don't even know what they would be defending anyway. The more my ideas and thoughts I have that go against uptight *******s like you, the better off I am.
I think the layout is gimmicky. You like it because its tigerproof and the rough is thick. One of can handle a differing opinion. One of us can't.

Again, you don't like what the usga did to it. I never got uptight, you just can't comprehend.

I'm not a FIGJAM fan, but I really hope he can piece together a good round tomorrow and win. He's too complete a player to not have at least one US Open on his résumé.

I'm for Stricker. He's too good a player not to have a major on his resume.'

So what you mean is somebody who hits at it not really careing if it lands in the fairway or not?

Since Tigers Spit the bit
I'm going for Stricket then Phil

Stricket needs at least one Major and this is a great opportunity

Good gracious. Tell me what I can't comprehend. Please. I feel like I'm posting with the Riddler's inbred cousin.
Fact is I don't like the course. I think it has become carnivalesque, whether its the responsibility of the usga or the pba. So in your opinion, it makes me a stupid dumbass because I don't like it for the reasons you do.
Remember this. You called me stupid, dumbass, pulled the ole reading comprehension childish bs, as well as told me to remember who I was talking to, before it further escalated. If you can't handle a civil debate on a topic, then stay the **** out of it next time.
If you can't handle a different opinion, then don't give yours.

Oh, they care. They just figure that they can overcome the rough with raw distance and hitting a short club on the approach. It works out west in the desert especially. Then the tour moves south and east where they grow sticky rough and it gets harder to do that.

I'm not sure the particular course even matters that much.

My gut feeling is that Mickelson gets his first U.S. Open tomorrow. But with Phil the Thrill we won't know for sure until the ball is in the final cup.

Seems like there is always a player that creeps into the picture on the final day that no one really saw coming. It's usually the guy putting a good round together 5 or so holes in.

I look for that tomorrow but ultimately Phil bags the title.

It would be great if Phil or Steve got it, but it wouldn't surprise me to see someone like Hunter bring it home. I was thinking Charley Hoffman might make some noise, but 7 off the lead is way too much of an ask.

a buddy of mine predicted Mahan on Thursday and he's been consistent all three rounds so far. Wouldn't be surprised to see him turn it up a notch and make noise for Phil tomorrow.
