well, china has taken the medal lead....
synchro diving is just auto gold for them, as is gymnastics in their house. Not only have they spent untold millions on the Olympic program, but years ago they decided to concentrate their efforts on events in which they, like Michael Phelps, can earn a lot of medals in the same events. It'll be surprising if China doesn't end up with the lead in both the gold and overall medal count.
uh oh....if she turns ouut to only be 13...do they give the gold to US?
Chinese news service cited gymnast as 13 - 2008 Olympics - SI.com
The gymnastics governing body and the IOC have already indicated that since the passports for the girls state they are 16, or at least will be before Dec. 29 of this year, that is sufficient for them.I honestly don't think they are going to look into it. Two of three of those girls are definitely not 16 however.

It's absolute stupidity that the IOC spends jillions drug testing to make sure rules are being followed, yet they refuse to delve any further into a very obvious issue like this one. Hell, Al Trautwig can't be on for 4 seconds without mentioning it.The gymnastics governing body and the IOC have already indicated that since the passports for the girls state they are 16, or at least will be before Dec. 29 of this year, that is sufficient for them.
Forget the fact that the Chinese gov't issues the passports, and they are exactly the ones to gain from changing the birthdates.
The biggest problem is... what are they going to do? Cut the girls' legs off and count the rings? It's absolute stupidity that the IOC spends jillions drug testing to make sure rules are being followed, yet they refuse to delve any further into a very obvious issue like this one.
