The Official XXIX Summer Olympics Thread

The biggest problem is... what are they going to do? Cut the girls' legs off and count the rings?

Seriously, is there a surefire way to age someone other than documentation? I am not aware of one.
we piss test for the scantest traces of anything, but can't figure this out?

I honestly don't care and think the 16 y/o rule is silly, but the rules are the rules. Picking and choosing those that matter effectivelyeliminates a block of them.

I'm with you on this one... it is unfortunate that there is on other way to validate other than to trust the documentation.

You _are_ how old the documentation says you are. The PRC is a totalitarian state; I'm sure they're expert at making the documentation say whatever is most convenient. I don't get what the IOC is supposed to do now. There's no way that they have an investigative arm that can compete with the Communist Party of China.

Clearly going forward a procedure is going to have to be put into place in which you have to register and document your age whenever you first appear in any kind of an official event, and then that's your athletic age forever. Either that or just drop the age requirement and go back to the way it was.

sometimes it doesn't look like he's even trying but he's still going faster than any human has ever gone in water

That was the point. The only plan is to trust the documentation, and I don't trust the Chinese gov't one lick.

But what else _can_ you do besides trust the documentation? I mean, that's all there is, short of somehow subpoenaing doctors and family members and such, which obviously would never happen. I just don't see what else the IOC can do.

I'm with emain. I can't explain it, but there is just something hot about Nastia Liukin.

Sometimes I forget that the modern internet lets you do things like italics. Back in the day, when you wanted to emphasize a word, you had to either capitalize it or put stars or underscores around it. 20 years later, I still sometimes do it without thinking about it.
