The Official Zone Severe Weather Thread

I remember Thursday posting about the thunderstorm coming through here was more intense than the normal storms. It was coming from the West where Milton was forming.

Today it's already getting bad. This is different from other hurricanes I've experienced. No joke, it's a different feeling.

I'm prepared and still feel safe and not questioning my decisions, Im just giving you information you might be interested in.

It's too early for the weather to be this bad when compared to every other storm I've experienced in my almost 27 years here. Raining hard and sideways, wind his howling. 3 tornadoes reported East of here. Warning over phone for here just now.

Lol. Chit.

We got wi-fi back today! There hasn't been a word from Charter Spectrum about the outage, restoration efforts, etc., other than that we will be billed for the full month.

Electricity in our area was back last Wednesday afternoon. In other words, roads were clear enough to work on, poles were back up, live dangling wires were gone, etc. And one week later comes the cable internet, which nearly everyone uses for TV to get news etc., even if they don't subscribe to cable TV.

Very relieved to be able to access information that doesn't lock up with the little spinner going on one bar of cellular

Yeah same here to the N. Waiting for this thing is like being stalked by a frickin turtle.

Thanks, I appreciate it, but I'm not staying because of nowhere to go. I could go to dad's or my brothers, or a friend in Jupiter. I'm good here.

There's some older church people that aren't in the evacuation zone but they will lose power and possibly water. I like to stay close.

BTW @joevol33 Mrs Foster just lost her 4th child yesterday, another daughter. Cancer. She's turning 91 soon. She's lost 3 daughters and a son. I didn't realize she has/had 9 children. I thought she just had the three daughters.
Awwh. ...that is hard to imagine...burying 4 of your childern....Bless her Heart ♥.
So Behr....exactly where are you staying?

Staying. We built a new house 3 years ago away from water. Prior to that we were right down the street from where Helene storm surge hir Treasure Island beach. Our old neighborhood was under about 5 feet of water.
Wow....are you in Tampa? I pray for your safety if you are, I guess you heard what the Mayor said on Monday about staying if you were in an area that should evacuate...stay safe...

I know you guys have more pressing issues, but try to let us know you're safe when you can.

She was talking about in the barrier islands and A and B evac zones. We have evac zones A,B,C,D,E. They called for evac of A,b, and c. Where we are to the NE of the county isn't classified as above. We are in non evac zone X. We are safe from storm surge. We will get punched in mouth by winds and rain but I do appreciate your prayers and thoughts for the region.

On the CLT reddit page they are like you can call spectrum for a discount on your bill for an outage, as it's not automatic. Yeah, I'm not wasting a 30 minute waiting in line call for $5.

How are the roads? I'm seeing quite a few surrounding counties now saying come visit!

@VolunteerHillbilly

Just saw this. My sweetie loved that place and I appreciate you remembering my interest. Her brother and his wife decided to shelter in place in Naples. Brother was here in Nashville with me last week after spending three days cutting his way down a private road on Willan Mountain (between Mountain City and Boone) when Helene interrupted his deer bow season. Praying for the safety of them, you, the manatees, and everyone else down there.

My heart goes out to you man, so sorry to hear about your wife. It sure is good to see you.

I'm safe and feel sure I will remain safe throughout this, but as I've said, it's already impressed me.

I'm already hunkered down, ain't going anywhere or doing anything til it's passed, except send TFG newds by fax because it's more private.

I 26 toward SC is fine, I-26 toward TN is fine for a bit then closed; I 40 east is fine, I 40 west ok for a while. (Closures will probably take months to repair.) About half of Asheville has power, no water. Rest has neither. West Buncombe county generally doesn't have power; same as other counties toward the west. Many AVL city streets have traffic lights; those that don't go with "pretend it's a four-way stop sign", which in many places actually works better. 😁 The roads are full of relief and emergency vehicles, plus people in cars going for water, etc. The most reliable and current road info comes from Google Maps with the traffic option clicked. Lots of helicopters and aircraft over our house (obv. not a road report.)

I think Hendersonville has water. Don't know about Brevard, etc. Honestly, please tell others, don't come to Asheville now, even if you can find a hotel. All we do is go get water, go get food, go get gas, go find cellular/ wifi (still most places), etc.

If you find anyplace sort of scenic and entertaining toward the east of us, please let me know. We will need out once-weekly-flushing-trips for the indefinite future.
