I guess The "Unapologetic Racists" and The "Anachronistic insensitive inbred" were both taken.

What a shame....

Also, I couldve sworn I heard their band playing Dixie the last time I saw them on tv. I thought they weren't allowed to play that anymore?

They banned "From Dixie With Love." They still play Dixie about thousand times a game.

while I think the decision was overall, in the best interest of the University...what a punk mascot..

the Rebel Black Bear...really? That's terrible...although not nearly as bad as the banana slugs or aardvarks.

If I was an Ole Miss fan, I would've wanted the Hotty Toddy, as ridiculous as it looks. :eek:lol:

If they had picked the Hotty Toddy as their mascot, it would have strengthened their stereotype as a bunch of preps. :neener2:

Personally, I liked the black bear more than the other two mascot candidates. In my opinion though, they should have never chosen a new mascot. They should have just continued on without a mascot.

they should have left it as it was.

When players, former players, and recruits make comments about feeling a little uncomfortable with the undertones of the mascot (it wasn't coincidence that rebel flags used to be flown at the game and fans even still use them as part of their private celebrations), it isn't something that should be left alone.

Go to another school then. Its apart of history and despite what the PC agenda pushing libs think, its still going to be a part of this country's history after they're worm dirt.

It seems like they're trying to distance themselves from the whole image. The name itself is fine, and I could even get past the mascot, but combine that with Rebel flags, Dixie, and 'the south shall rise again,' and you have an issue.

The school apparently disagreed with your take.

The fact of the matter is the history being written today is that of change for change's sake and its deteriorating anything and everything that was established originally. Its a load of crap and if I graduated from Ole Miss, I'd be ticked.

I think they should just not have a mascot. The only thing I really had an issue with was the Confederate flag.

Any chance that someone finds Volunteers offensive in the future? I wouldn't think so, and it's not like it's just a Civil War thing, but sometimes I feel like people look for things to complain about.

I guess everyone in the SEC will have 2 or more mascots before long. Stupid.

Auburn and Tennessee are the only two that have 2 mascots.

Alabama and now Mississippi have mascots that do not match their nickname. Alabama at leasts has the excuse that its hard to anthropomorphize Crimson Tide.
