The Ole Miss Black Bear

I honestly was wondering if they might phase out the "Rebels" and in a few years might be the Ole Miss Bears.

It makes sense ,but taking "Rebels" away would be even more controversial than "the black bear". :eek:lol:

As they are now rebels, but not Confederates, they are lets say "Rebels without a Cause." They should've gone with James Dean as their mascot.

They could get just some random Frat boy in white t-shirt and leather jacket to walk the sidelines.

Where I live everyone loves ole miss. I'm givin em hell they all hate the name. Shoot we don't even have many bears in mississippi. Shoulda went with rebel rednecks, rebel yellers, rebel bandwagons. That fits a mississippi team well

Its stupid. I can understand Ole Miss cutting ties with the stars and bars, and even stopping the playing of from dixie with love....but to take the mascot away???? Thats just ridiculous. Going WAY overboard with political correctness on that. The next thing they will do is quit being known as "Ole Miss" and simply go by their formal name all the time "The University of Mississippi."

They will lose a lot of money from alumni, and will see a sharp decrease in apparel sales with that stupid black bear, since Col Reb can no longer be used on anything. Enrollment could start to decrease as well, tuition will go up, and Ole Miss will no longer be one of the cool schools in the south that attracts many out of state kids (as it has)....as many of those kids will opt for Tennessee, Alabama, Miss St, and Auburn.

Instead of chaning the mascot, how about just change the name?

Instead of Rebels, how about Admirals? (Thinking of Farragut in Knoxville)

I, for one, am offended by this. On behalf of all the deer, fish, berries and all other prey/food that have been eaten and or killed by black bears, I denounce the use of such an offensive character as the mascot of an institute of higher learning.

I used to cheer for Ole Miss to finish second in the SEC behind UT because of what they stood for: tradition, southern pride, and gentlemanly class. I will never cheer for Ole Miss again until the day Colonel Reb walks the sidelines in Oxford again. This poor excuse for a mascot is a spit in the face of tradition and everything we as southerners stand for, all just to please the political correct pushing socialists.

They can keep the Rebel nickname and this be the new mascot.
