The Pembroke Postgame Report-Kentucky

I'd rather have a win over a top 25 RPI team that is ranked top 10 nationally than two wins over a team not even in the top 60 in the RPI(and on the bubble). I get your argument about doing well in conference play. Overall, conference play is more important, but not in this case.

At Notre Dame, West Virginia, at Georgetown and of course, Nova.

Road wins in the Big East and wins against the RPI top 15 are not east to come by. Therefore they are quality.

Kentucky's only quality win is West Virginia

homes wins against WVU and ND are not quality.. who says winning against a Big East team on the road is hard to come by? Western Kentucky did it

So that leaves us tied with UK for quality wins right?

they won at ND. as for WVU, they are currently top 15 in RPI

Just hard for me to call it a quality win when that same team loses to St. Johns..

but back on topic.. if Tenn and UK have the same # of quality wins and they beat us twice and have a better record and are in 1st place in the east i would assume that UK would be the team to get in, but the way things are this year both teams may get in

let's not forget that loss to Cincy either, a team whose best wins have been vs an NIT-bound gtown and perennial also-rans UAB.

Marquette's home wins vs wv and nova are nice, but they kinda get nixed by that loss to s. florida...and dayton...and, though it pains me to type: tennessee.

Cincy beat UNLV, who beat Louisville at home.

Of course, if you ask Mr. Popcorn, beating UNLV on the road is nothing because they lost to Colorado St.

I partially concur - I'll give Donovan his props for being a stellar recruiter. (I still think Al Horford was the key. Without him, those teams don't get past the Sweet 16.) As a game tactician, not so much, or else Pearl wouldn't be 6-1 against him.

Mr. Popcorn,

Here's what you are not understanding...UT will most likely get in due to 2 things: Strength of Schedule and RPI, and it doesn't matter too much if we win or don't win the SEC east. Kentucky will almost certainly HAVE TO WIN THE SEC east to get in. I would much rather be in UT's shape than Kentucky. One of the reasons that UT is in this shape: Win vs. Marquette. Reason Kentucky is in the shape it is in: 1 quality win and an RPI in the 60's. Does this help you make sense of where we are coming from?

Tennessee has the better RPI, it doesnt take rocket science to figure that out.. Ofcourse cbb is weak this year and UT and Kentucky may both end up getting in.. the only thing im debating is that we have just as many quality wins as Kentucky and they have beat us twice and are in 1st place in the east, so I dont feel that the Marquette win puts us in a better position to get in the tourney, yea it gives us a higher RPI, but definitely does not give us any edge on Kentucky

The committee is not just going to automatically put the top 30 rpi teams in the tourney especially when you have a team such as Tennessee that has been struggling in conference play

Ive seen teams with better rpi's and better conference results than Tenn has this year and still get left out of the tourney

I see that you, personally, don't feel as if that win gives us a better position to get in the tourney, but the fact of the matter is that it does. It honest to god does.

well no use of speculating now, there's still more games to play and I dont feel very confident that this team will finish the season well at all before the tourney

I also dont feel Marquette will finish the season well at all either

I see where you are coming from, though. Who knows how the season will end. As long as we don't play Kentucky again, we may win the SEC tournament. It's possible. We just don't match up very well against them at all. I wouldn't be suprised if we finished poorly, however, I wouldn't be suprised if we finished strong either.
