The Pembroke Postgame Report-Kentucky

I'm not going to argue about Ramar vs Maze or Pearl vs CBG. I just wanted to point out the one big positive of yesterdays game.
It seems as if Hopson is starting to get it. He was making the one-on-one slashes to the basket that we need of him. This was done on a defense that was guarding against drives to the basket and post play.
If Hopson can learn to move without the basketball like Meaks, and also develop a faster release jumpshot, he will be danderous. I have a feeling his defense will pick up over the offseason.

You've got the wrong guy. I've never slurped over Pearl. In fact, his team's performance this years reeks of complacency.
I'm pretty sure you're among those who tried to say he was comparable to Self. Trying to elevate a coach 10 levels above his skills is a textbook defintion of "slurping."

Gee, looking at his career SEC record, BCG is doing just fine. Must be a bunch of retards coaching at the other 11 schools.

I think its a worthless arguement anyways. IMO, BCG will be gone in 2 years because the boosters don't like him, and Pelphrey will be the coach. This scenario is very real.

Hat, I would be interested to see how you rank the SEC coaches.

If you're under that impression, you need much better sources.

Yeah, sorry. The blackberry decided to add a few letters to SEC

I generally look at it in terms of coaches I would hire and guys I wouldn't.

SEC Coaches I'd Hire: Kennedy, Gillispie, Stansbury, Johnson, Donovan(tepidly).

Kennedy, Stansbury, Johnson, I can agree with. Donovan has won 2 NCs so he has to be doing something right. BCG I am still on the fence about.

I think history will end up showing Donovan is much more the coach that loses to Manhattan and Creighton in the first round of the NCAAs than he is the guy who caught lightning in a bottle with one recruiting class and won championships.

He won a championship with this:

All things considered, history may be kinder.

Gillispie still mystifies me with his in-game coaching, crazy substitution patterns.

I suppose I wouldn't know a good coach from a bad coach. However, what I do know is that prior to BP coming to Tennessee, I was one of the few people in my area to even follow the men's team. Now at least people are paying attention again.

I've never believed that BP's strength was the half-court offense. His strength, imo, is the ability to get players to play hard and to play within their abilities. Stanley Asumnu being a good example. With that being said, both he and this current group have failed on both accounts. Win or lose, his previous teams at least appeared to play if it was the their last game. I felt like UT quit against Ole Miss. Against Kentucky, it looked like they had never played organized basketball in their lives.

My favorite Joakim Noah clip.

I concur

There is no doubt the lack of a decent point guard has killed this team. With a decent to good PG, this team would have won 4-5 more games at this point. The guard play is pathetic. Literally. I sure hope Daniel West is the answer or next year won't be much better. Scotty had a decent game. Tyler Smith SHOULD NOT be directing our offense....EVER. And certainly we should not be shooting over 20 three pointers a game EVER. Why Bruce hasn't stopped this is beyond me. I know he doesn't want them to be afraid to shoot so they should be shooting 15-17 footers instead of 3 pointers.

I don't understand Pearl not going to an 8 man rotation either. Still, this deep into the season, he is trying to play TOO MANY players

We will be lucky to get a bid to the NCAA tourney.

And I could care less if Tyler and Wayne go pro.

it's easy to blame the PGs on this team, but the main culprit in our disaster has been the lack of leadership and dominance from our two stud juniors. Tyler has been respectable while Chism has generally sucked. Those two guys get it done, we will a helluva lot more games, especially the close ones in which go-to guys matter most.

I only partially agree with you. Guard play is EVERYTHING in college basketball. While I will agree Tyler and Chism are too inconsistent, they aren't responsible for directing the offense, penetrating and outside shooting. With the exception of a 2-3 games, our overall guard play has been terrible.

I will still contend if we had cosistently good PG play, we would have walked away with the SEC east and looking at a 3 or 4 seed in the tournament at worst

Chism should have scored 30 against the D that KY put out there. PS guarding Tyler says they believe Patterson can handle Chism. That's not even remotely true.

All of that said, our coach did nothing to take advantage of KY's D, even though it's the 4th time now that they've done it against us.

I get a "throwup" taste in the back of my throat watching the wheels fall off the past 2 games. The effort and execution "Or lack thereof" this team has shown as of late puts them as one of the worse teams in the country.

This team is not improving. You can argue they are even taking a step backward.

Yeah, because their record would be better and they would be in first in their division, however I was arguing the merit of the Marquette win over a win over Kentucky, not Kentucky and Ole Miss.

a loss to marquette and a win against kentucky would put us in first place
