Yes, there is a difference. UF's posts would have scored at will on Woolridge. I counted two buckets that came from Pearl guarding the post one-on-one. He also caused 2 or 3 turnovers. There is no way Woolridge would have done that.
But definitely, you're right about a coach attacking Pearl. I'm just saying that Pearl is lesser of two evils; I'm not saying he is some sort of beast defender.
If you only counted two buckets you didn't see much of the game. There was a stretch in the second half that 4 straight plays went right at Pearl in the post and he got abused on every single one. Dad finally took a timeout to save him the 5th straight punch in the face.
does anyone else just think this team is just poorly assembled? I mean no clear point guard, no true 2 guard, and one big man inside. after chism we have no inside presence. This team has been exposed imo and we need to add a ton of size and a true pg or else we can look forward to alot of 3rd place finishes in the sec east in the next few years..
Of course it is poorly assembled. The attrition of players due to drugs, arrests, dismissals, and a heart attack have caused it to be poorly assembled. It is pieced together with walk-ons, a semi-reformed couch potato, and a juco transfer. There is no one, at any time before New Year's Day, that designed the team to be made in its current configuration.
The roster now is no different than it would have been if Tyler Smith slipped on ice and broke his ankle on New Year's Eve. It's not like there's some lottery by which players are dispersed at random. The personnel is a mish mash of ill fitting parts and that lands squarely on the desk of the guy who assembled them.Of course it is poorly assembled. but he recruited the guys that are on the roster now. This team is porly assembled reguardless if they are down 2 players or not. Even with Smith and Eman it still doesnt mesh
They are down more than two players. We also lost guards, one to the pokey, another to remedial English, and Tabb, I guess, went walkabout.
I'm not exactly sure what you want as far as meshing, but I do believe this team could use players at the top and on the post better than some of the guys we are forced to play now.
There were two straight possessions of them attacking Pearl in the post. The freshman post from UF hit a hook and Tyus hit a jumper on him. The other buckets were due to our inability to keep the point guard from breaking us down from the top of the key. This led to easy dunks that I don't put on the posts; that blame goes to our perimeter defenders.
How much longer are guys like you going to milk that 48 hour #1 ranking from 2 years ago?
That is a very good point. Yeah, Bruce's team got to number one, but they also lost the next game and still lost in the SEC Tournament and went no further than the team from the previous year that had much less experience. Even with his best team, the result was disappointing. Bruce must improve or this year will be about what we can expect every year. When everyone else gets better and you stay the same you end up in 4th. I think it is hilarious how those who idolize this team and Pearl criticize others for being angry that we have a team that quits on the road in a game that determined positioning in the SEC.

Same old story. Unless you jump on the criticism bandwagon and constantly criticize Pearl and each player, you idolize the team and Pearl. This is getting so old.

Something tells me Tennessee will be making a hasty exit from the Tournament once again.
Pearl is one of the highest-paid basketball coaches in the nation, but puts the same mediocre product on the court year after year. Frankly, the pattern is becoming painfully predictable. I am beginning to lose faith in Pearl.
To win 20 plus games with these players and the way they are playing is a very good coaching job, but I agree with the mediocre season comment.
