The Pessimist Thread

lol one minute you praise butch now you want to hang him for not getting all 4 and 5 star players wait and see what happens ok.

Who said anything about hanging him? I like the guy. I love his enthusiasm. But that doesn't make him a great coach. What his team does on the field will show if CBJ should be UT's coach. Winning fixes everything.

Being critical does not equal wanting to see a guy fail.

So wasn't Emmanuel Moseley a 2 star when offered? Didn't VN get a bit tense over him? And didn't he virtually secure a starting spot in Spring ball...proving that just maybe Butch has a clue?

Butch said he has his own rating system and that the only evaluations that matter to him are his staff's. Trust the process until it is clear that the process doesn't work. Not blinders, just the presumption of competence until proven otherwise.

See my previous post about winning actual games.

See my previous post about winning actual games.

See year 1 to year 2 at Cincy. See Butch's tone following Spring ball last year vs his tone following Spring ball this year. He's seen it happen before and it looks to me like he expects to see it happen here. I choose to believe until it is clear that it is misplaced, then I'll break out the pitchfork and torches.

So when Butch wins more he gets the latitude sign lower ranked guys, but not yet? Smh

If he wins more, then he'll have earned my trust. Earn my trust, and my opinion changes. All any of us are expressing on here are opinions. If you don't like my opinion, you don't need to respond to my post.

See what a simple process that is.

First of all he said he does not mind having different opinions but to keep civil yet you act like that. Second I think he is more concerned with amount he is taking at each position. I am happy that we get guys too, but he does raise good questions, and ones that you can respond to like an adult.

Don't use your opinion to degrade his opinion of your original opinion IMO

UT is not Cincy. Butch is on a new playground and has to prove himself.

You choose to believe in the best possible outcome. Makes you an optimist. I tend to expect the worse and hope to be proven wrong. Makes me a pessimist, albeit with a touch of optimism. That said, please note the thread title.

If it makes you feel any better I still think we struggle to make a bowl game and lose a few high rated commits before NSD. :)

Or I've just seen what the previous two HCs at UT have done and so realize that Butch is not a sure thing as some seem to believe.

I hope he wins games. I want to see UT rise to the top again.

Just a hunch, but I think at least 4-5 of our current commits won't be part of the class.

Last year we lost Booth, Mouhon, Thomas, Lambert, and Brown.

I expect we will lose at least that many this year, if not more.
I think that is part of it, and another part may be that many of the 3*s guys are better than their rating, and will get bumped up this fall.

I think filling up the class also has the effect of making the blue chippers feel a sense of urgency. If 2-3 of your top choices are just about filled up before their senior season, that should bump their decision timeline up a good deal.

Not much in life is a guarantee, but the blood ties they had to UT made them easier sells. Harder to sell to a recruit that has no ties.

I could argue that it can be harder to sell someone who has ties and feels like they've been ignored/cut off from the place they love.

My only point is almost all of those guys pointed out until Jones took over the program and recruiting, they were barely considering UT. He had to work to get them here.

Not at all. The max is 24. When there are no back counting spots available, it is what it is. :dunno:

I think the class will be 24. Today it is 22 and IMO it's actually probably 21. For now, I think the staff takes 3 more and it's done. Now if grades/issues arise before NSD, the staff will have other options at the ready. Do I think any of the current commitments are "insurance"? I do not. Would not be surprised at all to see 21 of the 22 current commitments sign with Tennessee.

Bump. I'm just now reading this thread, but I have to think this opinion is currently under review after today's events.

EDIT: Never mind... I didn't realize that "Yesterday" was only a couple of hours ago because today is now Sunday. Please ignore.

Sounds like you speak from experience as someone who frequents such establishments......

not that there's anything wrong with that.

Enjoy your chicks with .... well, you know.
