The Play Calling Against Oklahoma Thread

Guys the play calling wasn't the problem. OU lived in our backfield all game long, the o-line played like freshman because that's what they are, play calling was fine.

You just have to make better decisions than that. This is why we lose ball games. You go empty backfield, basically tell them you're going to throw, then force one and cause a pick 6.

3rd and 2, on the goal line.... RUN THE BALL!!!!! That's why you lose games in the SEC. If you don't know to take your big back and shove him to the line for 2 yards, and if he fails you kick the field goal and make it a 2 possession game, then you won't win in this league.

I literally couldn't believe my eyes when I saw an empty backfield. We had momentum and we could have made it a 10 point game. Butch needs to get that fixed or enjoy mediocrity during his time here.

Stop. Just stop. Our Vols played like heck and showed grit tonight. Dang proud of Coach Jones and this team.

I don't understand why you pass in that situation...but I think the play calling sucked the whole game.

The motion man got the ball EVERY single time. The QB didn't keep it on the read option ONE time. So its just a slow developing, easy to diagnose run play. It was an embarrassing game plan and embarrassing play calling.

Thank you! Glad to see I'm not the only one that noticed. I thought Worley needed to keep it 4-5 times per game to keep the defense honest. He didn't keep it once! So your description of our running game is exactly why it was so putrid particularly in the first half. It makes Jalen Hurd's 2nd half effort that much more impressive.

1. I hate our style of offense. I know folks like it..I just hate!
2. Why did it take all the way to the fourth quarter for the OC to adjust to the pressure by doubling the pressure?
3. Worley is a man amungst or young offensive line.
4. All the drops by WR are inexcusable.
5. I'm proud of the fight from our team and I think the future is bright cause Butch is a leader.

What exactly do you think would work with an Oline as awful as this?
Pretty much. I can't remember seeing so many OL getting owned...but not in this game only.

I'm sorry guys, but Crowder is not an SEC Center. He's a backup at best on most SEC teams. I thought some "insiders" were saying to expect Weisman replace him. Wonder if tonight's performance might force that change, soon.

I'm obviously no coach or offensive mastermind but when you are that close to the goal line and you go 5 wide, it's either going to be a throw or a draw. We know that Worley isn't the fastest cat and their Dline penetrates almost every play. So more than likely we would throw it but there is no space and the little curl is expected. I just don't see why we would go 5-wide right there.

Also, Croom needs some stickum.

We basically skip 1st and 2nd down. We reallllllllly need to work on gaining more that 2 yards on 1st and 2nd. We have the fastest three and out offense. Plus, it only makes our D tired. Stop throwing screens until we get rolling a little.

I may or may not get roasted for this, but, I was really not impressed with some of his play calls tonight to say the least. Some really horrendous calls to be honest. Specifically in the red zone. We left AT LEAST 14 points out there.

1.We make it to the red zone and then run a jet sweep (has this ever worked for us?) that gets tackled for a loss and messes up the entire drive. Why we continued to try to beat a faster team to the sideline baffled me.

2. We drove the whole field running the ball behind Hurd and then we run 5 wide from the 4 yard line with an empty backfield?? This results in the 100 yard int return.

These are just a couple that I can think of at the moment reflecting on the game.

Thoughts?

So you would have called all the plays like the way we called them?

Did you see that BC reverse? Perfect time to call it and it developed quickly. We are way too predictable.
