The Rap/Hip-Hop thread

That hook is just nasty. I love alliteration in songs like this. That beat is just fire, too.

I think these guys are insanely talented, especially Ilajide (second on that particular song) who also happens to be the producer.

Also, bonus points for actually having a hip hop song reference Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

They've started getting a little recognition and they were a part of a Red Bull music documentary series that came out a little while back.

On the suggestion of Daloth I'm gonna post this here. Hopefully some of you can post some insights about the topic.

In a college class, we have to write a paper (any length) about something that interests us in Pop Culture. Myself, being an avid music lover, have always wondered about the male dominance in the rap industry.

Sure, there have been some really good female rappers/groups, but none have achieved the status that some of the male rappers did.

I'm just looking for thoughts about why this might be and maybe just some ideas about the rap industry in general. I have my own thoughts, but would rather bring them up in agreement/disagreement with others posts.

Thanks.

It has everything to do with the demographic they reach. That and their limited range of content.

Lol it's just 1 song

Very true, may just be a one off but never thought I'd see him with a song/video about being surrounded by girls, drinking and eating expensive sushi. I'm sure he's probably made a few like that before but when I think of TQ, I think of lyrics a lot smarter than that.

Nothing wrong with a good time, every now and then.

The name of his latest album is "Prisoner of Conscious", meaning that because he is a so-called "conscious rapper" he has fans or critics that expect him to behave a certain manner. You just showed what he was talking about when he says he feels like he's boxed in. I mean, wow... he can't hang around women and eat sushi?

Didn't mean to imply that I didn't think he should ever do a song that wasn't socially conscious or deeper in meaning but, if he is going to do a "wine, women and song" track I guess I'd just expect it to be a little more original from Talib. That seemed like a pretty generic, run of the mill rap song that anybody could have written. Guess I'm guilty of an overreaction to what I thought was an average at best song when I'm used to a whole hell of a lot more from one of my favorite rappers.

Not gonna lie... the track list for the Marshal Mathers LP 2 looks like it will either be absolutely legendary or so terrible we all wish he'd OD'd in 2008.

It has Rihanna and Skylar gray again, but the only other rapper.... Kendrick Lamar.

I'm looking forward to this.
