The Rap/Hip-Hop thread

I don't see what the big deal is about Kendrick Lamar. He's good and I enjoy him, but he seems to be much more appreciated by others. I'm more into artsy hip-hop, these days, FWIW. I know I'm not in the majority.

I still like the old stuff. Majority of my listening is of artists/groups who were rappin in the 90's.

As far as today's rappers, J Cole is nice. Kendrick Lamar is too. Meek Mill is on fire in the streets. But mainly I am a fan of particular songs that I like more than a certain artist. I respect good work from anyone. But if you give me a good mellow CD to blaze to, I will add you to my playlist.

Kendrick's album was a concept album though. When you listened to it, did you listen through with no breaks or skips?

Hopsin is definitely not trash, but he's not the best rapper out there. He's not even the best rapper in FV. Dizzy and jarren benton are both better

Nah he's trash a lot of his lyrics are dumb as s**t, and he stereotypes and judges people massively without understanding the environment they grew up on.
He disses people soley for attention, and is a major hypocrite.
Plus, he feeds on the shallow idea that all rap is just about drugs, money and guns and his music is somehow a unique alternative.
His production is a joke.
He also bites Eminem & Tech N9ne hard.
There are hundreds of technically skilled rappers who have actual musical talent.

That is a fair criticism.

Outside of the message he had in his first big song, I really can't say I've been able to feel anything else he's made. But he does borrow M&M's cadence/flow.

After Love Games I would love for Em and Kendrick to do a whole album together, but I don't see it happening.

However, what I would like to see is a J.Cole and Kendrick album similar to Watch the Throne or Hell the Sequel. I feel like those two guys are the best of this crop of rappers by far.

Hopsin said himself he was influenced by Eminem but knock madness is a amazing album. Hopsin is unique and not for everyone though

A) I'm the poster child for white middle class
B) I love(d) Brand Nubian almost as much as any other rap artist/group ever
C) I think Macklemore is trash

Now that I got all that out of the way, Lord Jamar keeps making himself look like a more and more of a dumb ass the more he keeps talking about this stuff.
