Simplicity? laughable. That is not what led to X selling records.

Never said it was what led to his records selling, his catchy hooks are really the biggest point of that, but as that vocabulary counter shows, his raps were in no way complex lyrically, and considering we're in a time (and his best albums were released in a time) where the average listener is only hearing top 40 songs, then simplicity, catchy hooks, and beats, matter more than actual skill and meaning behind lyrics.
 
Country Grammar was easily one of the top 10 rap albums of the decade. Not much you can argue against that. I've never been a nelly fan, but not really possible to deny that album's effect on the landscape of rap at the time.

A top 10 rap album in the 2000-2009 decade can still be the equivalent of the one eyed man in the land of the blind.
