The Rap/Hip-Hop thread

A) I'm the poster child for white middle class
B) I love(d) Brand Nubian almost as much as any other rap artist/group ever
C) I think Macklemore is trash

Now that I got all that out of the way, Lord Jamar keeps making himself look like a more and more of a dumb ass the more he keeps talking about this stuff.

What else was Lord Jamar supposed to say? He's got his opinion, as un-PC as it may be. Who is really surprised by that?

Honestly, I don't get the Macklemore hate. His music is well-written, well-produced, and original. I know it doesn't follow the current rap/HH trend, he's a recovering addict and doesn't glorify violence, sexism, and drug/alcohol abuse, but it's real...and it's well spoken. I can't imagine people actually listening to Otherside, Neon Cathedral, A Wake, 10,000 Hours, Wings, etc. and criticizing.

The problem is, I think for most people, he's white and not Eminem (or to a lesser extent even, Kidrock).

Once he gets more CDs out and more songs I think he'll be fine, otherwise he'll just turn into a white lil wayne that does nothing but send out hits and people in the business hate him for not hitting any potential in his actual music or artistic growth.

Older song (about 4 years old) that features J. Cole. I've had this song for a while and didn't realize J Cole was flowing on it. He changed up his cadence between then and now.

Nelly used to spit fire. Country Grammar was something else.

But I think we all knew Wayne would be low. Anyone else a little surprised that DMX was so low, yet he has some of the best record sales? Simple = best in some cases.

.... a throwback for the people.

It is a measure of vocabulary the way I read it. Not record sales or popularity.

I know this. DMX had the fastest selling rap album up to that point for years, and he's still top 10 in sales all time IIRC. It's just strange that his simplicity led to such sales.

Simplicity? laughable. That is not what led to X selling records.
