The reason Bruce Pearl will not get fired. ...

Well, I would guess the program starts down the drain when the NCAA sanctions are issued, not during the current season that they have taken no action on. Going to the tournament this season will continue to allow the media to continue to bash Pearl, the program, and the university. The entire world supports us keeping an unethical coach and supports the response so far. Guess all this is good for the program and our ability to recruit student athletes who would allow us to continue winning.

Well CPB is a high profile public figure that's suppose to be a good example to the young men he coaches on and off the court. To compare lying about your wifes dress to whats going on here is not even close to being a good argument. He represents the University and all things UT,and to commit another violation 3 days after the presser,,just unexcusible!

exactly. Im not saying that lying is ok.. I didnt say everyone is a pathological liar. I simply said that we ALL have made mistakes.. and we ALL have lied at some point in our lives - so to act like we are all Saints and that Bruce should be burned at the stake is crazy to me. I for one am glad that i got a second chance to make right for some of the stupid things i've done in life.

Do you understand the distinction between telling lies in your personal life and telling lies in your professional capacity, as part of your job, to the governing body of your profession? When doctors and lawyers come up on ethics charges, do their governing boards just say, "Aw, shucks, who cares about this evidence; the guy deserves a second chance"?

I'm so glad the UT fanbase is composed of morally angelic citizens.

:disappointed:

Try reading the post directly above yours. That explains the difference.

Big difference is when a doctor lies someones health is on the line. Not apples to apples. In fact i have seen plenty of doctors brought up on charges of way worse and receive far less penalty that some of you want to put on bruce.

It has nothing to do with whether somebody's life is on the line. It's about professional conduct. My wife is a CPA. If she were found by the Board of Accountancy to have lied and conspired to lie during an audit, she'd have her license yanked and she'd never be able to work in the field again. If she said she was really sorry and begged for a second chance, they'd laugh at her.

Point taken. All I can say is the accountant field must be more stringent.

Another thought are you suggesting that bruce should not be able to coach again?

Noone has said that they lie all the time... My point was that we all have made mistakes, we have all lied at some point.. it's human nature. None of us are saints. So why pass judgement on Bruce because of a mistake he made? Until someone proves to me that he is a pathological liar and cheater than i will continue to support him. People saying he is a cheater bc he lied about a bbq is simply ridiculous imo.

Does breaking the same rule four days after tearfully apologizing in front of the cameras count?

It's a lost cause even arguing the point with most of you. We all have different opinions and hashing it out here won't matter.

I just wish we'd never hired Bruce Pearl. I wish we'd never had the success that we've come to enjoy. I wish Football was still King in TN and we wouldn't have be having this same discussion that divides the fan base.

I want our next coach to never tell a lie, and I don't want to EVER hear or see a post on volnation about how bad it is that we suck.

a coach takes a team to the best record over a 3 year stretch they ever had in the history of their program...he gets put on probation for rules violations....the school stands behind him...he is caught again and the school gets the death penalty for one year. You have to fire this coach...correct??...Well that was Adolph Rupp. The school stuck behind him and he won another National Championship and went to 3 more final fours...UK is still national power...Sometimes firing a coach is not the answer...just food for thought

Peer review boards deal with all manner of professional
problems. And just like the NCAA they hand out rulings of
license suspention, and like the NCAA it is seldom a death sentence.

I appreciate the thought, but I will say that I've never, ever, ever wanted to be Kentucky.

To tell the truth I am scared to death that a going to a game in a year or so, will mean the PA annou. coming over the PA and saying "we invite the upper deck to come and fill up the lower deck" at the 5 min. mark of the 1st half... AGAIN!!!!! So yes, I am scared of change.

UT basketball could get the death penalty, and some people here would still be advocating for his return afterwords.

Yes, Mike Hamilton, if he remains, may be willing to use another coach, perhaps hire a new associate coach, until Pearl's ban from games is over, even if that ban is for a year.

I agree with you. The trouble with change is that you always know what you are losing, but never know what you are getting.

I was with all the Pearl supporters.

Until it was revealed that after his tear-fueled press conference he committed another major violation with the 'Saban bump' rule.

See you Bruce. Good Luck.

There is a good chance that is reduced to a minor violation, or even thrown out all together. I see Bruce sticking around for a while.

It would be the AICPA that would be involved in her certification issue. Moreover, unless the conspiring during an audit was Enron or Worldcom bad, she wouldn't get banned forever. Year or years, but not life.

Your professional conduct argument is fair. However, CBP willingly admitted to a mistake, and he is making the right moves to make amends.
