Maybe losing 2 of three to the worst team in the majors is all it will take to make Dusty play Yonder and Frazier the rest of the year. What a pathetic showing.
The only thing I don't agree with is platooning Alonso. He hit lefties very well and actually hit off them much better than he has against righties this year. I'd send Sappelt back to AAA after Heisey is off the DL so that Sappelt can get regular AB's.
Heisey is a good 4th OF. He can play all 3 spots and him not playing everyday doesn't seem to phase him. I don't think Sappelt necessarily needs more time in AAA, I just think it would be more beneficial to him to be in AAA playing every day instead of sitting on the bench in the bigs. Seeing 5 ABs a week isn't going to help anything.Good point about Alonso and lefties, but I have to respectfully disagree with you about Heisey. He's had his chance, I think he's fine as a fifth outfielder/bat off the bench/possible late inning defensive replacement for Yonder, but he's nothing more than that. I'd rather have Sappelt see some MLB pitching, even if it's not as an everyday player; he has nothing left to prove in AAA, and the Reds need to know if he's going to be part of the future or not.

If Alonso works out in left, I don't know that trading Stubbs isn't the way to go

I could see Yonder and Stubbs as the centerpiece for an Ace in the off season. Sappelt and Frazier take over CF and LF. Still need to find a 3B but I think that would be a formidable lineup.
1B Votto
2B Phillips
3B Rolen/Francisco/other
SS Cozart
RF Bruce
CF Sappelt
LF Frazier
C Mes/Hanigan
SP- Ace acquired in offseason
SP-Cueto

SP- Leake
SP- Wood
SP/Closer- Chapman
Alonso done in left, on to third

It sounds like the Yonder Alonso experiment in left field is over and the Yonder Alonso experiment at third base is about to begin.
Asked if Alonso would play left again, Dusty Baker said: “Not in the near future.”
Alonso had a rough time of it in his three starts in the left field on the road trip. He missed played three balls and made an error.
Alonso was at Great American Ball Park early taking balls at third base. He may eventually play there, but, again, not in the near future.
“You don’t want to do it in the big leagues,” Baker said. “But that’s the position he started at. It’s an mirror image of first base really. You get more plays. Most first baseman are at first base because they’re left-handed or they don’t have the arm to play third.
“We’ll see. We’re trying to find the best place to get his bat in the lineup.”
