I can't believe someone considers making Hoover an accomplishment. that's an expectation.
I'm not certain that I'd fire Serrano at the end of the season, but my decision would have nothing to do with whether this team sneaks into Hoover as the 12th team.
I'm just not certain there is someone out there that could do better. Would love to be proven wrong, but at this point, I give Serrano one more year and try to field a healthy team next year. If you believe the problem to be Serrano, who would you hire?
To all the people who don't think we can hire anyone who can do better, I have a serious question.
Given that you think the difficulties imposed by budget, climate, and financial aid are too formidable for us to overcome, which course of action do you recommend?
A) Accept last place finishes in the SEC as normal; retain current staff; lament our fate each May when we don't have a postseason.
B) Join a conference where you think we can be competitive.
C) Hire someone who doesn't share your despair and makes a credible case that he has a plan to turn things around within the constraints he'll face.

I'm the one who suggested Greg Lovelady.
Now you answer my question. You don't seem inclined toward Option C. Do you pick A, or B, or do you have an Option D?
Yeah, two of the options are ridiculous.
That's my whole point about all the people who act as if it's hopeless even to try.
Why Lovelady? Four year starter on national championship team. Turned around program with no winning tradition and now totally owns his conference. Followed up good years with other good years. Has recruiting connections in region not dominated by another SEC team, and from where players will not think it's too cold to play in Knoxville. Won with less than top flight talent through development. Continued to win when best players moved on by developing others. Still young and energetic. He is steady: worked his way up from assistant coach to head coach at Wright State instead of skipping from one job to another. Would see salary, facilities and budget at UT as fabulous compared to what he has been working with. His last five years are a heck of a lot better Serrano's.
