The Road To The 2010-11 SEC Title Runs Through Lexington.

Serious question for Hat.

What do you think of Cal's on the court coaching abilities? It has been my opinion for some time that Cal is at best a mediocre coach on the bench but his abilities as a recruiter make up for his shortcomings on the bench. We can debate the reasons he's a great recruiter in circles and get nowhere so I'd rather just leave that aspect out of it. Am I off base IYO?
John's a decent enough tactician. Look at the rosters of his UMASS teams. Tell me you can get those players to Elite Eights and a Final Four by just rolling the ball out there. People have to rip on his bench coaching because they certainly can't attack his recruiting prowess.

We beat them once and they beat the Hell out of us twice. The Cats will take that deal every year. I'm also pretty sure UK would have loved to have seen Michigan State in their regional final instead of who they drew.

It also says that five years into his tenure Bruce Pearl still hasn't brought in much, if any, elite talent.

1. We split. They beat the hell out of us in the SECT. (The one that doesn't matter, yet there were 50k+ in and around it? Some who I'm sure shouldnt/couldnt afford it. Wtf?
2. While true, (<<see this? That's called givn credit. You should try it. Oh, nm. No one is ever right if it even slightly contradicts your opinion)This is irrelevant. And ftr, nobody wants to play Izzo in a regional final.
3. Comp different argument. But I'd love to hop into the rec forum and figure that 1 out to. =) The talent has improved, period. You know as well as I do not all the busts can be blamed/attributed to BP. For every Jurick, there's an E-man. What is TH's ovr rank btw? I'm just curious.

Far be it for me to stick up for Cal, but didn't Cal destroy Izzo in a regional final at Memphis?

Kentucky did not "beat the hell out of us twice."
To say Kentucky beat the hell out of Tennessee twice is absurd.
They won 73-62 in Lexington. That does not constitute "beating the hell" out of anyone. Even more so, that game was actually more competitive than the final score dictated.

The drooling over Tennessee's biggest basketball rival on a Tennessee message board is quite disturbing.

Marques Johnson, Tony Passley, Phillip Jurick, Josh Tabb, et al didn't evaluate themselves. Somebody had to decide giving them scholarships was a good idea.

Tobias Harris is very highly rated. So were Scotty Hopson and Vincent Yarbrough.

I don't know a lot about his attitude, but I would have to imagine it can't be worse than those two. I think Harris will be a much better player as well. Would you agree?

I didn't see Hopson or Yarbrough in high school. But I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that Harris will actually turn out to be the star he's made out to be. He's just gotten so much recognition from too many elite AAU camps for me to believe otherwise.

From what I have read/heard, Harris' attitude is polar opposite from the other two. Barring an injury, I fully expect him to live of to his hype and actually improve while here.

I'll take a wait and see approach. Some of the people I respect most in the New York area aren't exactly effusive with praise for Harris.

NY kids can be a weird lot sometimes as far as attitude and work ethic go, which is ultimately what makes them the players they become, because talent is not an issue. As far as his attitude, the only story I remember is the little pouting incident he had after a game. Can't remember the specifics.

Edgar Sosa, Lance Stephenson, the list goes on and on. However, there are obviously great players that come out of NY also.

I think the kid will pan out well for UT. The only ones dissapointed are the ones running around here claiming he is the next Carmelo.

I'm anxious for this year. I don't see this as a straight shot for UK like last year was. They definitely have a very good recruiting class, but they lost more than they are bringing in. Honestly, I think any 1 of 5 teams in the east can win the east. The only team left out is South Carolina. UK does have probably the most talented starting lineup with:

Knight
Liggins
Miller
Jones
Kanter

That's assuming that Kanter makes it through the eligibility questioning. They have decent backups on the perimeter but they are suspect down low because the only other post they have is Josh Harrellson. That is, unless Stacey Poole can go inside but he seems to be more of a swing player. What is going to happen with Hood/Dodson? I've heard separate rumors on both being asked to look around/wanting to transfer. Does the depth chart shake out like this:

Knight/Lamb
Liggins/Hood
Miller/Dodson
Jones/Poole
Kanter/Harrellson

? Or will Jones come off of the bench with Lamb or Dodson starting somewhere in there?

You forgot Elroy Vargas. Harrellson will see nothing but mop up duty.

Stephenson is now in shape and slowly rebuilding his draft stock. He's the best example in some time of how stupid mandating a year at the collegiate level is. Neither he nor UC got a damn thing out of that relationship.

I completely missed out on Vargas. I knew they were making a push for him. Still, though, a guy that averaged less than a point and a rebound at UF, albeit with a nagging injury, isn't going to swing too much momentum to the Big Blue. Not until he shows something on the court (other than JUCO or HS). He could turn out to be an amazing addition. He could flop again. Same thing with any other player new to a program. He's already had one chance, though.

Isn't Lamb a shooting guard? I would bet he would start in front of Liggins.

He is nothing more than a stop-gap, finger in the dam band-aid for this season due to the lack of big men. In the instance that Jones didn't sign, we had to take a commitment from either Vargas, Kadeem Jack or one of the other big men that Cal normally wouldn't take unless under these circumstances.

a month ago, Dodson for sure seemed to be gone. However, it was released officially that he is in fact returning to UK next year. The hood thing was all bogus. Hood and Harrelson are both playing on a traveling team in China right now, trying to ready themselves for some playing time this year.

Calipari has continuously stated he wants ONE MORE for this class. Even though he is not eligible next year, everyone seems to think that its UTEPS Arnett Moultrie, who many think is NBA ready now. Who knows.

The roster will be as follows:

Knight
Polson (Walk on)
Lamb
Poole
Jones
Kanter
Vargas
Hood
Miller
Liggins
Harrellson

Moultrie is vastly overrated and wouldn't be eligible this year anyway. I wouldn't discount the possibility that Royce White is the last guy in the class.

I will say that, assuming Cal is back, they will definitely dominate the year after next. Even if Kanter, Jones, and Knight are one and done and Miller/Liggins were to leave early as well, the class they will have is incredible.

If they lose all those players, I don't know how incredible they would be. I really don't think you have to worry about Miller/Liggins leaving early.

Cal won't be at Kentucky in 2011.
Hell, he may not even be there in 2010. Cal follows the almighty $$$ and runs when his shenanigans are are found out.
