The Roger Stone Trial

Not exactly a heel turn. In fact, his account regarding the Stone reversal lines up with Trump's. He's just pointing out the obvious . . . somebody has to put a governor on Trump's Twitter account.

It's nutso world. Even before he was tagged to replace Sessions it was no secret Barr thought the Russiagate thing stunk to high heaven and was full of investigatory/prosecutorial abuse. It's no surprise then that he would think Stone was getting too harsh punishment and took action accordingly.

It's the media and Dems that immediately claimed Trump told him to do it and now that Barr is saying Trump didn't they accuse him of flipflopping. It's plain as day he's trying to undo what he considers to be abuses in Russiagate whether Trump wants him to or not.

Nah. I thought Barr would be a good AG. He hasn’t been. He deserves what he gets in terms of distrust.

I said earlier today, I don’t think this story is as bad as it’s being blown up to be and if the whole “line prosecutors misled main justice” aspect turns out to be as advertised then it will be another egg-on-face moment for a lot of people in political media, Barr’s lack of trustworthiness won’t mitigate all of it.

So, I’m not saying he flip flopped. I’m just saying he criticized the orange man child, which usually goes badly.

well your problem is you are a reasonable person about the issue.

The only thing wrong with Barr is he wasn't nominated instead of Sessions

Who did Roger Stone intimidate?

Maybe you should sit this one out until you’ve read a single news article about what Roger Stone was convicted of.

That seems like a good bare minimum threshold for making sweeping statements about what has and hasn’t happened.

A guy and his dog, who didn't feel intimidated, who didn't want Stone prosecuted because it was "Roger just being Roger."

I guess you’ve graduated from defending Trump for breaking unwritten norms to defending his cronies for breaking actual laws. You’re basically a full fledged politician at this point.

Am I, now? Read this from the letter the intimidation victim, Credico, wrote to Stone's sentencing judge:

The government’s key witness in the trial of Roger Stone implored a federal judge Tuesday to spare the longtime Republican operative of jail time when he is sentenced next month.

“I am writing to respectfully yet fervently implore you not to send Roger Stone to prison when he is sentenced before your Honor,” Randy Credico wrote to Judge Amy Berman Jackson in a letter reported by Yahoo! News.

Included in that letter is this:

Most notably was after Mr. Stone’s defense attorney asked if I had ever thought Mr. Stone was going to steal or harm my dog Bianca. My answer was an emphatic “No.” At the time I was hoping he would follow that question with another asking if I had ever personally felt threatened by Mr. Stone. The answer would have been the same. I never in any way felt that Stone himself posed a direct physical threat to me or to my dog. I chalked up his bellicose tirades to “Stone being Stone.” All bark and no bite!

I guess the guy I referenced and pretty closely quoted makes me a "full fledged politician."

The relationship between Stone and Credico (a political comedian) should also be considered for context. They have been described by some as "frenemys".

This is not to say that Stone is not guilty of crimes but the witness intimidation is a little bit questionable given the way the "victim" interpreted the "threats."

What was the verdict?

You have got to be FN kidding me.
No. Go ahead name names.

Guilty. That doesn't change what I quoted the "victim" as saying. Does quoting him make me a "full fledged politician"?
He said similar things at trial and it apparently wasn’t convincing. Which is not at all uncommon in cases of witness intimidation.

12 random people found his conduct to be criminal. But you are trying to minimize and defend it because this particular criminal scumbag is on your “side.”

That (and your previous successful attempts to flay your own credibility for the sake of your tribe) are what make you seem like politician. I’d say “lawyer,” but at least we get paid to make these kinds of arguments.

Weren’t you griping about somebody else leaving out context? Didn’t you say that was dishonest?

Credico already answered this question and if you’re looking up his letter you’ve seen it. What did he say?

I'm not minimizing anything. Just quoting the "victim" and you get all contorted. You got a problem? Take it up with Credico.

Stone deserves whatever he gets. He's a scumbag/nutjob.

I won't comment on your own "tribe" and "credibility." But you do love you some self.

WTF? I quoted his letter. What DID he say? Why don't you post up what you are referring to, for cripes sake?

Guidelines to the forum say not to copy whole articles so :

This article includes the entire letter

Credico's conclusion to the letter:

I was told that when fashioning a sentence, federal judges look to what is “sufficient, but not greater than necessary” to meet the goals of sentencing. I understand that Roger Stone has broken federal laws, but a prison sentence is beyond what is required in this case. It is not justice. It is cruelty. Indeed, with all of his talent and knowledge, Mr. Stone would be an ideal candidate for participation in an alternative to incarceration program that would serve and benefit needy organizations or distressed communities.

Roger Stone certainly rubs a lot of people the wrong way, particularly those on the receiving end of his wee hour lowbrow character attacks. Stone enjoys playing adolescent mind games and pulling off juvenile stunts, gags and pranks. He shamelessly invents and promotes outlandish and invidious conspiracy tales. But the bottom line is Mr. Stone, at his core, is an insecure person who craves and recklessly pursues attention. Like Billy Wilder’s tragic fictional character Norma Desmond, Stone is always at the ready for that “close-up.”

Prison is no remedy.

When I think of my father and others in prison, I think of these words in a letter written by a tormented Oscar Wilde from his prison cell: “We who live in prison, and in whose lives there is no event but sorrow, have to measure time by throbs of pain, and the record of bitter moments.”

Thank you for your kind consideration of my letter.

Respectfully yours,
Randy Credico
