bought the Newton Motion IIIs and now Brooks has introduced a new PureCadence. Might have to get those too. The Mizunos didnt work out very well, and I always like to have 2-3 different pair of running shoes.

6.8 in 1:02:17. First run since the half. Started out rough, but started coming together around the 2.5 mile mark.

Any advice on my first 10k? I've only run a couple of organized competitions. Would love to break the 50' mark. It's early, and I never run in the morning, so I need to figure that part out. Hoping the adrenaline will get me going.

Got my 6' 18" mile done today. damn it was brutal. I had to visualize the craziest ish to motivate myself to finish. Hopefully I can get 6' next time and be done with this goal.

BTW, I should share my Dad's story. Any runner would appreciate it.

My Dad is an old beat up, heavy football player. He took up running when was about 30 cause he kept on getting injured playing contact sports like basketball. He ended up running about 9 or 10 slow marathons. He kept meticulous records of the miles he ran, and around the age of 40 he discovered that 25,000 lifetime miles (the circumference of the earth) was a reachable goal.

He went after it and last year he was within 1,000 miles and suffered cardiac arrest after a run. He should have died for many reasons, but one of the reasons he made it was because his heart was so strong from 35 years of running*.

He's running again. Slower than ever, but his heart health is a lot better than it was and he's only a few hundred miles away.

*He has a genetic predisposition to cholesterol buildup and he had 5 main arteries almost totally blocked.

Wow.

First of all, hope your dad is doing well now. That's some tough stuff to go through. Glad that running helped him in his life.

Awesome goal of 25k. I've never even considered keeping track. By my estimate I've logged about 10k. I've slowed down my running, but for about 4 years my goal was 60 a week. Definitely didn't 60 every week, and I'm sure I inflated my numbers to keep coach happy. Thanks for giving me a new goal to keep in mind. I'll definitely start logging them for now on.

I can't even to begin to guess how many miles I've ran up to this point. Since I've been tracking, and I've forgot my watch multiple times, I've ran 750ish.

Being in the Army 12 years, I'm sure I've ran close to 7-8K, and thats probably a little low.
