The Runner's thread

My half-marathon is 2 weeks from today. It will be my first one. I was wondering what type of work load you all would recommend for my training leading up to the race? That leaves me with 13 days to train (not counting the Saturday before). How many miles should I run leading up to the race and how many of those days should I run? Thanks.

Make sure you get one day where you run at least 9-10 miles so your body will be sort of prepared for the half. I'd say one day a week, run 3ish. Take a day off. Then run 5-6. Take a day off. Then do the long run. Then on the week of your half, 2-3 miles every other day. Keep a good pace though and don't overdo it, otherwise you'll injure yourself.

This is the routine I followed in training.

I really appreciate it lylsmorr. Good stuff. That link was exactly the kind of site I was looking for.

Congrats on your trail race, tri_vol.

And yes I know. I have been running and training for it about the last 5 or 6 weeks. I was really just wondering if it would have been wise for me to run a half-marathon or two these last 2 weeks before the actual race. I didn't know if that might attract injury or not. But lylsmorr linked me to a good website and thanks for your info as well.

I should be fine come race-day, but I just don't want to get injured right before. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

3 miles as the sun went down. 2.5 by myself and then Nat came out for a .5 mile loop at the end.

243 mile total.

I think I'm gonna shoot for a 10k the first week of June. I don't want to run it if I don't think I can finish in under an hr. I think a 10k will help me prepare for the 5k at the end of my sprint tri the last week in June. That was my weakest link last year. I'm shooting for 1hr 45min for the sprint tri.

I appreciate it, Ho. My mind was already f'ed trying to figure out the total after my run this morning. I had to break out the abacus for a second.

2.5 this morning, 264 total.

not been logging them in here, but I did run my first 5k here in Afghanny and with the elevation and not knowing the route, I took it easy. Finished at 24:30, but I had way too much left at the end. Got a couple more 5ks and some 10ks coming up, will be interested in how much I can improve.

Total- 289.106 :)

I'll try to keep updated, because I've logged at least 2 miles a day about 5 days a week for some time now.

Ran 9.6 in two runs on the White River this weekend. Nice to have a decently flat run for a change.

322 total.
