The Section 103 Postgame Report.

He missed a free throw that sends us to the Final Four. He refused to guard Summers and gives him an uncontested three. And towards the end of the regular season, Hopson was outperformed by Tatum.

Unless something changes this year, he'll never be a guy we can depend on. We can just depend on him being inconsistent.

He's proven he can score on top quality opponents. He just can't handle the added pressure that comes with playing in a tournament.

Hopson is very inconsisent when it matters most.

Hopson has been inconsistent his entire career. He floats in just about every game he plays.

I don't understand the hubbub about turnovers. If I remember correctly, we had 15 assists to only 4 TO's as a team. I think we can all live with that ratio although I expect us to get better with assists as the season progresses and the frosh and transfers get more cohesive with the returning players. Harris impressed, and McRae looks to fill JP's role quite well. He is quick, and a much better passer than I thought. I think A combination of Harris and B Will can make up for Chism's production as well. I feel more confident after last night. We looked good even though I'm pretty sure my middle school team could've competed with Brevard. lol

The size of Brevard contributed to our rebounding advantage. We will know for sure when we play a team with actual size.

Their 2 tallest players were listed at 6'7" and I am not quite sure they were legit listings. lol

The rebounding was not impressive considering the team we were playing. We'll need to do much better there as the season goes on. At this point, this team is not as good as last years, but should get better as the season progresses. Overall more talent on this team with great depth.

1. Kudos to Laura Taliferro. That was a top notch opening night Anthem.
2. John Fields improves UT's defense immensely. The perimeter players can be more aggressive since they know they've got a stopper behind them.
3. Tobias Harris is very good. Not "The Next Carmelo Anthony" good, but very good nonetheless.
4. This isn't a great passing and ballhandling team. They had way too many loose possessions.
5. I'd again like to thank the 'AA for utterly ruining exhibition games. Pretty sure a game against the Argentenian Junior team would have been a little more fun
6. Sorostitutes doing performance art to the music of Queen. Awesome halftime, simply awesome.
7. Trae Golden is going to be a very solid player. Needs to go left occssionally, but I like his poise out there.
8. Renaldo Woolridge has the worst haircut in college basketball history. At least he's got that going for him.
9. If this team improves its ability to outlet the ball, they'll run some people out of the gym. Fields, Harris, and Hall will leave other team's bigs gasping for air.
10. The team looks to be in very good shape. Even Steve Forbes appears to have gotten into the act and lost several pounds.

Does this mean we are headed back to the Bruce Pearl press 24/7?

Pearl said last night that we'll press the teams it will hurt, and we won't press the teams that can handle it.

Wow, he finally said something profound? Imagine that! We will only press teams that we can be effective pressing, but won't press teams that we cannot be effective pressing. That is the words of a great coach.

He wasn't trying to be profound. This approach is a departure from that he arrived with and he was simply laying it out there.

OK, guess the point was that he is not going to return to a consistent press as his defensive philosophy.

yes. Used to press as a matter of course. Sounds like we'll now moderate that because we can actually defend in the half court. Big departure.

Thanks Hat. Wonder how many games in it will take to see how well we match up with Kentucky,Vanderbilt, the two I happen to dislike the most.

Any report on McRae? The writeup on govols.com made it sound like he struggled. Lots of positive talk about him in recent weeks - would love to see what people thought of him in a real game situation.

a little off topic, but indianapolis is currently down 10 to purdue at the start of the 2nd half...they should prove to be much more of a test mon nite then brevard could provide

What did you think of our shooting? Outside of Hopson and Harris, we were definitely working out some rust, imo.

Side note - can't say enough bad things about UTsports.com's feed of the game. Can't say I expected much either, but it was absolutely pitiful.

Was anyone else impressed by our post? I've given Williams more criticism than anyone on this board, but he looked as quick as ever. Fields looked good down low. It was Brevard, but he was swatting shots like no one's business. His post defense is something I look forward to seeing.
