The Section 103 Postgame Report.

Pearl is a very complex case study as a coach.

He's seems to thrive under adversity, and has trouble handling prosperity.

When he is a big underdog, or has a seriously depleted roster against the #1 team in the country, he shines.

When we are picked to be great, and have a loaded bench, we flounder.

Pearl is a hell of a motivator.

Great job tonight, keep it rolling.

Sometimes is it easy to lose site of how much of a factor motivation is in sports, especially Basketball.

10. If that's all Kansas is going to get out of their complementary players, they're not going to win the national title. For that matter, they won't win the Big 12 with Morningstar, Reed, et al playing as if they picked up the game yesterday.

They certainly may be in trouble. Right now their only clutch player is a 5'10" somewhat chubby kid - if he has no one around him, KU will get crushed by Texas.

He should know it's Chism.

I agree... The coaches have seen him pick up that 3rd foul before the half before. I knew it was going to happen as soon as he checked in, so did most in my section judging from all of the groans.

Ding, ding! Nicely said. As much as has been said about Pearl's coaching abilities, he is a great motivator...there's no denying that. It also helps to have players on the court that accept motivation (re: the C-Lo/CJ/Dane/Jajuan teams).

The only negatives I can draw from this game is CBP putting Chism back in with the ref's whistle constantly blowing and Chism's absurd behind the back dribble when KU was pressing at the end of the game. Other than that it was a total team effort and I think Mcbee earned a right to play for the big orange.

Or not to dribble behind the back while being double teamed.
He put himself in such a bad position on that play that the behind the back dribble was actually the only chance he had of not turning it over. Well, I'm off to help run up an NBA expense account. Knowing Gary Williams was due to roll Leonard Hamilton results in dinner being gratis for me tonight.

the ymca 2-3 was a good move. there was plenty of time left when he went to it... 11 minutes left i think. unless we are on fire from 3... we generally look more awful than usual in the halfcourt against a zone... surely you haven't forgotten the memphis game.

4. Steve Pearl's free throw was the basketball equivalent of a 370 pound woman in a thong. He did make a solid play drawing the charge on Morris.
8. That'll rank with the upset of Florida Pearl's first year on my list of great TBA moments. It still wasn't as much fun as the Corey Allen "How The Hell Did That Happen" win over Kentucky.
10. If that's all Kansas is going to get out of their complementary players, they're not going to win the national title. For that matter, they won't win the Big 12 with Morningstar, Reed, et al playing as if they picked up the game yesterday.

4. He (and the other end-of-the-bench guys) deserve more credit for providing many minutes of tough D (and even a few key treys) at a time when Kansas could've gone on a huge run.
8. Most unlikely outcome of a UT game I've ever seen (moreso than the Stoerner fumble)
10. Our effort and poise on D had something to do with that.

1. That's the best win of Pearl's tenure. They won a game played at postseason pace against a potential Final Four team and came out on top.
2. That's also the best game of Bobby Maze's career. You can win a bunch of games with that point guard play.
3. Renaldo Woolridge looked solid shooting 3s. He still looks akward handling the ball on the perimeter.
4. Steve Pearl's free throw was the basketball equivalent of a 370 pound woman in a thong. He did make a solid play drawing the charge on Morris.
5. Wayne Chism has got to be smarter than to pick up his third foul of the game at the end of the first half. The risk of not getting the call far outweighs the benefits of drawing a charge.
6. Bill Self's decision to play a YMCA 2-3 and let Tennessee shorten the game was utterly baffling. It allowed UT to minimize the effects of their foul trouble.
7. Nothing says bigtime college basketball like a bunch of kids from 4 hours away jumping rope at halftime. For the love of God, just scrap the "entertainment" completely.
8. That'll rank with the upset of Florida Pearl's first year on my list of great TBA moments. It still wasn't as much fun as the Corey Allen "How The Hell Did That Happen" win over Kentucky.
9. This should lead to a great SEC start for UT. There's absolutely no reason they shouldn't have an 8-0 or 7-1 league record out of the gate.
10. If that's all Kansas is going to get out of their complementary players, they're not going to win the national title. For that matter, they won't win the Big 12 with Morningstar, Reed, et al playing as if they picked up the game yesterday.
I'm really happy for this guy. Without him we lose tonight. Thanks for the break-down. I find it funny after such a great win we have people having threads about Pearl-Haters...besides the kids won the game did they not?

There was NO WAY these guys were going to lose that game. You might question the skills and the smarts, but not the will to win, at least in this game. I realize it was nip and tuck, but you had to feel the flow toward victory was wearing orange today.

Woolridge has the gaukiest looking shots, but as long as they go in, I say let him shoot all he wants! The young man kept us in the game early!!!

Hopson was really impressive with his drives! Wish he'd get his outside shot working again.

Maize had the best game he's had in UT Orange. Actually, I think he's had the two best games in UT orange back to back. I think it's clicked.

Hall continues to impress! Played well against that bruiser on the other side. Did anyone else think Kansas played "Karate Defense" or was it just me?

Prince made some great defensive plays tonight! He also got at least two crap calls against him. Wish he'd line up straight and shoot FTs like a man, though. He's a liability late in the game.

McBee... just when I get frustrated with him he goes and makes spectacular plays! Kids got some heart and deserves the scholarship he's going to get!

Bone is looking more and more comfortable in the lineup! He has a nice looking shot!

Chism forgot his brain tonight, though I thought one of the fouls really wasn't. Hit a big three in the second half though!

I thought Pearl gave us some real good minutes tonight. I still cringe though when he puts the ball on the floor.

All in all, this is a team that is playing well together. Nothing like we were seeing earlier in the season! I am starting to feel like we might have a chance in the SEC East now! Looks like we will also be in the top 10 again after tonight! GO VOLS!!!
